I am new to ObesityHelp, but not new to being the "fat girl".  In 2006 I was learning and lurking about WSL, everyone told me that I wasn't "fat enough".  I feel like I am stuck because now my Sister-in-Law (of 17 yrs) just had WSL and if I even breathed that I had looked into this or even wanted it done would freak out and say I wanted it only because of her.  She is 40 yrs old, very large, and just got married (to an even larger man), who has everything wrong with her.  Her parents did everything for her as a kid - gave her the world because she was big, she has gone to school for ever changing her major several times.  She is the type of person who is never happy and doesn't think anyone around her should be.  She thinks she is always sick.... I think it is just to get the attention.  When she was waiting for her surgery she told my 16 year old daughter, who is 6ft1 very athletic "big girl" (not fat), that within a year she would be her size or even a little smaller, and that by this time next year she would be wearing a bikini and have her belly button pierced.  This goes on and on.....  and, this woman is a social worker for the state!!!!!  So..... back to my story :0)  I have decided to try and loose weight without WSL......    I also want to do this for my family..... cooking right for them.  Any information would be so very appreciated!!!!  I can't wait to get to know all of you!!!  I can do this..... Thanks, Kriss

Yes, of course you can do this.  REgarding the WLS though..... .  this is YOUR body.... and I woudln't care what my sisterinlaw said... you need to do this (either non-surgical weight loss or WLS ) for YOUUUUUUUUU.. not to impress her.. and if she thinks you're doing it to impress her... well then she is one misguided individual.  You have to wear your OWN body.. no one elses. Her telling your daughter that she will be the same size that she is nothing more than her own high hopes for success. There are many different plans out there.. many ways to do this.  Have you investigated any non-surgical methods to date?  What have you learned?  Is there a particular plan which strikes your fancy??????????????? God Bless! Lori

Hi Kriss....yeah, tell us more about you....ferget that SIL. I know some number of people do this WLS because they are maybe on the hypo-chondriac side or as you say, on an attention trip due to the medical aspect. I think if you have never seriously tried to live healthier (eating better quality foods, exercising most days), it is definitley worth a try!  What things have you tried?  Welcome!

Good Morning! Thanks for the replys!!  On the way to work this morning I felt so encouraged and thankful that I have decided to do this!  Not just for me, but for my family as well.  In the past, I have done pretty well with Weigh****chers, and I love the program, but have sorta been bored with it.... I know that sounds dumb especially when I have lost weight with it.  I think I just needed a change.  In my mind because I don't go to weigh in every Tuesday I am not "doing" Weigh****chers", but I laughed last night when we were grilling chicken breasts for our salad.... something I did a lot with Weigh****chers.  My new plan is to try to really watch my calorie intake and try to eliminate sugar......and..... walk.  Today is our local Relay for Life and our company usually wins with the largest amound of donations, so I am looking forward to walking tonight..... I will try to update my profile with some pictures....I love looking at everyone's pictures here.....Kriss
