Calories vs. Carbs vs. Fats????
I'm on a pre-op diet of 2,000 calories or less per day. I was advised to get most of my calories from protein sources. I logged everything I ate yesterday and need feedback if this seems like it's in a decent range. I'm not sure about the ratio of carbs/fat/calories or what is suggested for the ratios.
Anything comments would be appreciated so I can make modifications that I need to make.
This does not include the 80oz of water and 20oz of tea and countless cups of ice I consumed throughout the day.

Before i say too much, I'd ask the surgeon's office about what you should target! They usually have an RD there to assist with this - call them!
Yes, it did meet the goal of protein! Not bad on the 22% carbs or 45% overall fat.
My comments on the constructive side
1. try to get in more lean proteins that are not so high in sodium - stuff like franks, cheese, sausage, ham, is very high. And there will be days like this - hard to eat on the run. I know those things are convenient! Try to get more grilled chicken, tuna, lean pork, cottage cheese, etc. In fact, more low fat dairy overall would have been better.
2. Your carb choices could have also been better quality. think of more vegetables like spinach, kale, cabbage, kidney beans (which also help with lean protein). Whole grains are better too: barley, brown rice, whole grain pasta.
3. Try for more good fats: olive oil, peanut or other nut butter, canola mayo, etc.
If you felt satisfied, good, but you can eat a bit more! Congrats on your upcoming surgery!

It will give you an idea of the typical types of low fat, low carb, high protein choices that post op patients follow for the most part. Realizing of course that my portion size wouldn't satisfy you, you could double the portions and probably be in the range your looking for.
Good luck and if you need more ideas I welcome you to come to the Pennsylvania Board and read our daily menus.
