Dehydration

Ok so I stay dizzy a lot.  Not sure why.  Well two weeks ago it was bad.  Usually it is just like when you stand up to quick and it goes away fast.  Well two weeks ago today, it wouldn't go away.  The room was spinning, I saw spots.  It really scared me.  Called my doc, they told me to make an appointment.  They couldn't get me in until the next day, so off to the er.  My blood pressure when I got there was 99/44.  The machine went crazy, lights flashing, beeping.  Apparently, that is not a good bp.  So they did blood work, yada yada, decided I was dehydrated.  pumped me full of fluids sent me on my way. Yesterday, another day like that.  Super super dizzy.  I drink ALOT.  How the hell am I getting dehydrated??  What can I do to stop this from happening?  I am thinking the doc sux now.  I don't know what tod do.  Any advice to keep my fluids up??  Do I need to take some different supplements?  What is the deal here??

Happened to a friend of mine. You just need to keep up drinking H20.  Think 2 glasses per meal and 2 with snacks. Why blame the doc?

I say that about the doc because he wasn't concerned about it.  And it really was serious, I think!!

Did the increased fluids at the ER help your dizziness and BP?  Do you drink a lot of caffeinated beverages?  They really dehydrate you......excessive exercise (you said you were having a problem finding time for that though, so probably not the cause), overheating, excessive sodium intake?  When you feel like that, do you ever take your pulse?  What's that like....regular, normal?  Any new medications, supplements?  Drastic decrease in your food intake?  How much are you drinking in a day and how much of that is water? If it continues and doesn't seem to be caused by any of the above, I would make an appt. with your MD to have it checked out.  It's been really hot here this last week and if you've been doing any increased activity outside in the heat, you can dehydrate quickly even if you feel like you're drinking enough.  Any vomiting or diarrhea?  That can dehydrate  you quickly too. Hope you're feeling better!

Leah - Switch to Gatorade or Pedialyte - you need electrolytes, and water doesn't have any.  I know the electrolytes cost calories, but it's worth it.  Get some Gatorade.

I'm with Janina on this one, get some Gatorade.  Also, have you had your blood sugar taken?  Might be worth looking into.  How much are you drinking?  Do you drink a lot of caffeinated beverages or eat food with sodium in it?  Are you getting in enough calories and protein?

I do drink a lot of unsweet tea.  Maybe I shouldn't, bu****er tastes nasty.  I never had this problem when all I drank was Dr. Pepper.  I am afraid that if I start drinking gatorade then I won't stop.  I have a very addictive personality.  Next on the list is to stop smoking.  And all that sugar in the pedialyte and gatorade.  HMM??!!  Frustrating.
