Swelling

Does anyone else have a tendency to swell in their fingers, etc. when it is hot outside and you exercise like walking, etc?  Mine do this within 2 blocks of home. I will discuss it with my doc but I was just curious if anyone else has this happen to them as well. Beth

Yes, Beth....mine do that too.  If you clench and unclench your fingers while you walk it helps.  I think it's just cause they're hanging dependent.  If you power walk and really swing your arms it helps too.  Nothing to be concerned about, I don't think.

Yep, most definitely.  Actually everything seems to swell a bit. I think it's just the increased blood flow. Plus you're probably raising your body temperature slightly and when things get hot they expand. :)

Thanks guys. It makes me feel much better. I only worried because my mom suffers from edema which is much much worse in summer than any other time of year. I don't want to go down the same road she is traveling. Edema sucks. I appreciate the input, definitely. Beth

Sweetpea.... do you drink a lot of water while exercising?  I know it might sound silly, but I swell too..especially in the heat...    drinking a lot of water helps control it.

Honestly, it depends. When I am on my stationary bike, I keep a bottle of water next to me. If I walking my measily mile (15-20 min), I drink when I get back. Saturday, we went for a hike. I was only going to go on the 15 min trail so I didn't take anything. Well, I ended up walking 3hrs and so was TOTALLY unprepared. STOOOOPID!!!!!!!! cuz I was sweating so bad. By the time I got back, my mouth was sticking to itself and my girls had gone ahead on the trail with the liquids they had so...nothing for mom. Won't do that one again. I will take water with me just in case.  I don't swell anything like I used to but I hate doing it at all cuz it jsut makes things yucky and uncomfortable. I have thought about asking my doc for a ligh****er pill since the swelling isn't bad but enough to be annoying. I don't know what he'll say but I'll ask anyway. Beth
