Down 4lb for the week....I'll take it!

Well, started back on SB last week and expected great things....BUT.....had a really hard time sticking to Phase 1 (or any phase), ate out way too often and came to some conclusions.  I for one, can't live without my fruits or my oatmeal or an occasional sweet potato.....even for two weeks!  Okay, not much self discipline shown in that statement, but if I possessed that virtue I wouldn't be on this board! Had paid for WW through the end of June (but haven't attended the past 5 weeks) and guess I will sign on again for another six months.  It's what I know best and what I do best....will just try to make my choices low carb and good grains and low glycemic and go from there. Joined the Y last week and only made it there once too....now that's not good.  What is it about that?  I love it once I'm there....it's just getting there!  No excuses cause it's open 5AM-10PM.  My goal this week is at least 3 times....attending a aquatic class today. It's Monday morning and my resolve is high....ONCE AGAIN!  Back to my Saturday morning WW meeting this week too (no matter what the scale says).  Need to lose 5 more lb to be back to where it was when I was there last.  I can do it, and I won't get there if I don't get back to my meetings. I have to admit, reading all the posts from you youngins this week about not wanting to be in a wheelchair by the time you're my age has inspired me (and depressed me).  Believe me, there are days when I would welcome a WC...hurts so much to walk, but I refuse to give up. Eight weeks til Labor Day and I have set a mini goal for myself of 250....that's 18lb.  That's very doable!  I haven't weighed 250lb in about 6 years...would love to see that # again!!

None of those foods you listed are weight gainers!  Going out to eat, however....how much can that be cut back? Then again, WW has ways to cope with that with the extra points each week.  Yes, I think Labor Day can be Your Day! I'm trying extra hard too right now to go into winter with 10-15# gone. We eat out fairly often and probably not gonna change that lifestyle.  However, when I'm doing WW, I seem to do a lot better (check online the menu and figure out the points before hand).  I think the portion control part is an important piece for me and that's where WW helps.....can only go so far with those points.  LOL Thanks for the encouragement, Neecee!

I don't know anything about ww, but I think eating out often can sabotage any diet to some degree.  From what I heard, people on ww should be able to eat out and they teach you how to make the right choices. The exercise is important.. NOT simply for weight loss, and you and I both know it.  Your lungs depend on it, your joints depend on it......  your heart craves it.  If I were there with you, I'd go with you... but the only thing I can do is be there in spirit.   I think the mini-goal is a great idea as long as it's not too lofty.  I think I did that to myself with the memorial day challenge and I was off by about 10 or 15 lbs and sadly disappointed in myself.  Setting goals in all areas of our lives (not just weight loss) is grand... gives us something to work toward. You have the resolve, darlin'... it's just a matter of balancing your choices and keeping them in your plan.  Also.. how's the bs doing?  You may want to consider giving up some of these things merely for better blood sugar control.  Heck.. lol  I dined out last night and the salad bar had a mix of lettuce with shredded carrots and I thought "ok.. for HIM those shredded carrots mean a few carbs.... for me they mean a blood sugar spike"...  and in as much as I was craving a salad, I left it alone.  When you begin to understand which foods are actually akin to dumping poison into your body... you'll leave them alone more easily.  Oh.. GAWD, I LOVED sweet potatoes when I was bodybuilding.  That was a staple!!  :)  I raised my eyebrows when I read that!   Keep doing the do, girly and hang in there.  One day, one hour, even one minute at a time if you have to.  Try getting out there and just DRIVING to the gym.  Do it again the next day but this time find a parking space........  lol  one step at a time!!!   It's crazy.. but it just may work!! Love on ya! Loiri

Thanks, Lori....appreciate all the positive input.  I return to the MD on 6/24 and will have lab work prior to that so will know how the BS doing then.  So much to think about everytime you put something in your mouth....can drive a girl crazy! I sat down this morning and wrote out a schedule for the week....what needed doing each day....company coming Thursday night so whipping the house into shape too...LOL.  I have four days scheduled in for the Y...all water aerobics and water walking and DETERMINED to get there each day.  It's been so dang hot here these past few days...hard to motivate myself to get out of the house (unless it's in the convertible...lol).   How are things going on your end?  Please keep us updated....we all care and are keeping you and Joyce in our prayers.

Sherrie, that is so awesome!!! 4# is MAJOR! Keep doing what works for you, hun. That's what I tell everyone. When you find what works for you, don't stop. If you stall just re-evaluate, make sure your still working it and adjust as needed but don't give up and stop.  I think you will reach 250 by labor day with NO problem! Beth

Thanks, Beth.... I think WW does work best for me, cause I'm not deprived of anything I want....just portion control.  If I can get the exercise part going too, I'll be all set!

Good for you!  That phase one can be a kicker can't it.  Well glad it did what it suppose to do for ya.  We're so much alike, so I'm not even going to get into it with you.  Lol, you already know what I think.  As for the gym, we are alike there too!  Shocked ya didn't I.hehe  Seriously though, just put on your shoes!  Just try it and see what happens.  That is exactly what I was told to do by my bariatric doctor.  That once I'm there I'm fine, it's the getting there that I can't seem to do.  Or even getting in my family room where my workout equipment is.  He said to just put on your shoes.  Most likely, once you put on your shoes you'll do it.  Give it a shot and see what happens.  Now when I don't work out I blame it on me getting lazy and not wanting to put on my shoes! hehe I just have to tell you.  I've noticed something on the scale this past week.  I've been in a VERY depressed state, been thinking about getting back on my pills.  But anyway, even with not eating right I think I'm actually ranging around 292 now instead of 300 or 306!  Here it took six months to FIGHT from 306 to 292, but I think it might just be my normal weight now.  Hmmmm! :) I wasn't well yesterday at all (mentally), and I ended up pigging out on a plate and a half of french fries.  Yea I know, bad, bad, me.  I haven't even touched a fry here at home in ages.  I dearly payed for it BIG TIME last night.  About an hour after I ate I got the biggest stomach ache.  Then again in the middle of the night I felt like I had the stomach flu or something.  But it was those darn fries!  Made me realize this morning that my eating habits are changing, even though I don't realize it some times.  So keep it up!  We are making progress without even realizing it! :)  I cannot eat fries like I use to anymore!

You know Holly, we don't give ourselves enough credit.  You're plateauing now 10-15lb lower than you used to.  That's a GREAT accomplishment in six month (for those of us like you and I who keep sabotaging ourselves).  And I think you're right...our bodies find new "setpoints" and have to just maintain there for a while. Just got back from and hour and half at the Y and FEEL GREAT!  It energizes me and makes me want to make the right food choices too.  Just have to get there OFTEN!!  And the pool work is great on my knees. So, we will find our way and we will eventually get there.  Like I said....shooting for 250 by Labor Day and want that to be my new "setpoint" for a while.  This old body just doesn't want to get rid of all these fat cells that have been hanging around for 50 years!!   Back to it, girl....glad those French fries didn't agree with you.  I sleep so much better when I'm not eating the junk too.
