Thought I'd drop in for an update.  I'm down to around 280 on the home scale. I've comletely quit Karate. I am doing some resistance training with 5 lb weights at night but it's not a whole lot. Just enough to satisfy the exercise girl at the bariatric joint. I haven't quit Karate because I got lazy. Well, laziness did have a little to do with it.  I haven't been since the end of March. I sprained my ankle around that time and it didn't stop hurting until last Monday.  I had planned to go back Monday night and just do some light duty to make sure the ankle was alright. Then it happened.... My knee blew out while I was sitting in the chair at work. I spun to the right to face back to my computer and it snapped. Rode the ambulance to the ER for them to tell me they couldn't do anything. No x-rays..nothing.  So I hobbled out of there on crutches with a knee immobilizer under my arm. I couldn't put the thing on cuz my knee would not extend.  Since this was workman's comp I went to see a orthopedist who assumed I was a lazy ass trying to lay out of work and mooch off of workman's comp.  HELLLOOOOOO I'm working from home you moron! He didn't seem to understand that.  Well he told me that it was my knee cap that had dislocated and I needed physical therapy.  Great another MFer telling me I need to exercise.  I didn't care for his rushed bedside manner.  I decided to see another orthopedist of my choosing on my own damned insurance.  I went to see him today. He believes I have what is called bucket meniscus. I'm going for an MRI on Saturday and we'll go from there.  More than likely he said surgery and then some physical therapy afterwards.  Sounds great to me!  My knee popped back into place about the second day so at least I'm able to walk now. So anyways, as far as the Atkins goes I'm on par about 95% of the time. I seem to slip on the weekends with sugar.  Starches don't bother me. I don't miss them.  Sugar on the other hand is killing me.  I could have been down to 270 by now if I hadn't hit the sugar so often.  Either way, I am still losing. Slowly..but it's a loss.  Still pursuing surgery though all the hoops I have to jump through is extremely irritating. I don't know why they just can't find out if I'm approved first instead of me doing all this nonsense for nothing. Anyways..  Life is great other than my screwed up left leg.  Can't wait to get everything healed  and fixed up so I can get back to Karate without fear of breaking something.

Yikes!  knee issues terrify me...that is rough, Kriz. Being in pain and stressed out with doctor crap is fun, huh!  Yes, workers comp here in cali is SOOOO not worth it. If one has insurance, just say your damn knee popped out as you got out of the car and go get it fixed.  WC will screw things UP and just stall every move you want to make.  You and your sugar! I can guess that you don't make up the sugar free stuff for your self much, right? And that is hard to take the time. Ask your wife to bring home sugar free pudding mixes and those only take a minute to whip up with some nf milk, sure some grammage of milk sugars in that, but better than a blizzard, eh?  here's that one recipe that somebody gave us sounds good and seems easy:  2 sugar free jellos+ 2 c boiling water, stir, then add 1 - 30 ounce lite n fit yogurt, vanilla.  I think it makes 6 servings, but even if you made it be 3 servings, not that bad!  Hang in there, dude!  I knew you were lurking ya lil ****

I stepped in a hole when I was 21 and dislocated my knee.  It is painful.  My popped back in too. Had to wear a leg brace and do physical therapy for a while.  Mine got better pretty quick.   Glad to hear your still losing.  Take it easy. Brenda

This first happened to me when I was 13. I jumped into a pond and both knees blew out.  Since then I've had troubles with my left knee off and on since then. On more than 6 occasions it has left me immobile for 2-3 days.  Most of the time I can catch it as it's about to slip out and stop it. Those only leave me a little sore. They happen all the time.  I can't wait to get the thing fixed! If you all recall in 2007 I tried doing the couch to 5k program and had to stop because of knee pain.  Hopefully I can get this fixed and I'll be able to pick that up one day again. This time though, I think I'll buy an expensive pair of running shoes. :P

I've made so much sugar free cheesecake that I burnt out the motor on my mixer. I just bought a new one last night.  I have tons of sugar free jello.  Its' the damned blizzards and butterfingers.  I don't know what it is about those things but I can't seem to stop!  My sugar free stuff does great throughout the week. It's when I get to the weekend and I'm 'out' that I start craving one.  I haven't been going hog wild on them but usually every weekend I have one sugar item.  Sometimes it's one or two cookies, other times it's a large blizzard with extra butterfinger.  This past weekend I gave in and ate a hamburger with bun and then some BF ice cream that night. Ended up dropping a pound the next day. :P  So having the sugar doesn't seem to be stopping me but I'm pretty sure it's slowing me down.  I've got to come up with a way to make sugar and carb free ice cream with sugar/carb free chocolate or PB. I haven't stopped visiting the board.  I've checked in just about every day. Just haven't felt much up to posting.  Either that or I had nothing worthwhile to add to the conversations. :P So how are you doin' Neecee?

I know how it goes about posting....i can go thru that too.  I've been trying to keep this place alive...hardly no action! just miss you, tha's all. You are so shiny and bright and have intelligent things to say! well most of the time.....LOL As for your lil binges, it does sound like you are trying to minimize exposure, so that is the goal, i think. You know I say deprivation sure does work, but I am not sure it is reasonable. Slow loss is best, as long as you really are changing some basic bad habits. I am doing good. Work stressed mainly if I have to *****!

I'm kinda feeling in the posting mood.  Maybe the two of us can refreshen things here, eh?  Deprivation, I think, is why I am having these little 'binges'.  Substitution works great until I get 'out' where my sugar free stuff is not close by or when my mixer is burnt. I'm gonna push for a sugar free weekend. Plan to make some SF cheese cake tonight and I'm gonna experiment a bit with some other ideas. I'm very limited on what I can have because so many sugar free things are loaded with carbs.  I'll figure it out though. Work used to be the big stress in my life.  Thanks God the new job isn't stressful.  Only stress I have is dealing with lame and lazy doctors. You're always good though, you rarely have anything to ***** about!

OH Chris.. I feel your pain, sweetie!  About 8 years ago I did something similar but my knee remained locked in that bent position until the meniscus was removed.  Really.. the surgery was quite simple and it offered a tremendous amount of relief.. it's just a matter of being a tad more careful when it comes ou****ch curbs.. don't walk on rocky or uneven surfaces.. blah blah.  Mine was a meniscus that tore off, flipped upside down and wedged under my kneecap.  Please.. BE CAREFUL while you are awaiting treatment. I know you'll have more success with the Atkins if you can try to ditch those sugars.. they are a killer.. and it seems the more ya have.. the more ya want.  In the interim, we know all the nonsense is a necessary evil when it comes to the approval and I pray for your patience through  this.   Be well, sweetie! I second that, Kriz!  BE careful , forget about exercise for a while here.  One thing at a time, bro!

That's pretty much what happens to my knee!  `Cept eventually the meniscus squishes back into place.  I'm not sure where the pain comes from. My guess is it's because the tendons and ligaments are stretching while the cartilage is out of place.  Who knows, who cares, I'm gonna get fixed! :P  When I get it fixed I'll take it easy for a bit and do the physical therapy but I know eventually I'm gonna pu**** to the limits. That's just what I do. :P Yah, those damned sugars are a pain in my pancreAS!  I've been seeing a new endocrinologist about my thyroid and he is phenomenal.  He thinks he can help me lose enough weight that I won't want surgery. He's heavily involved in diabetes and obesity research and says there are some promising advancements being made in hormone research. Tells me that in 2 years he thinks there will be some hormone injections that will help both diabetics and non-diabetics alike to control their weight without having to deprive themselves of wholesome grains. He says lab tests are showing weight loss similar to that of WLS. That sounds fantastic!  Anyways, he's got me researching Symlin and various other things while he runs tests. He did find that I have a Vitamin D deficiency and he's started me on 2,000 IUs of D a day.   I go back to see him in a couple of weeks and can't wait to see what he has to say.
