How do you know?

How do you know when you've really reached a plateau? I've been floating around the same weight for nearly 3 weeks. This is the longest my body has stayed at the same weight for this long since I've been on my diet. I've lost 40 pounds. I haven't been this size since 6+ years ago. I have a feeling that my body is just putting on the breaks because I'm at a point where my body is Really changing for the better health wise. Should I just accept that gut feeling of what's happening here, and stay the course?

I've hung at one weight for 6 weeks or so before seeing the scale move again.  It's enough to make one crazed but when I know that everything I'm doing is spot on and I'm not taking in too many calories for my current weight, then I know it's a stall and I should just keep on doing the do. I believe our bodies have a "memory".  When I hit a weight I was at for a long time previously, all bets are off for a while.  My weight will hang there until my body figures out I don't want to be there!  LOL  This happened to me at 265 and at 225. 6 weeks?!?! Oh dear Lord, NO! Ok... I'm going to hang on for a few more weeks and see what happens.

You phrased my thoughts about hitting a wall Exactly! I just keep telling myself that my fat cells are freaking out and don't want to budge... not a pound more! Well, I'm sticking to the plan and this body will get smaller eventually! Thank you Lori a million times. It's such a comfort to know you and others on here have gone through the same thing. Now I'm off to remind body memory of life at 180 pounds.

well, three weeks is suspect! Try the usual things to break it:  like eating high protein for a couple days, then eat "normal", then eat low cal high protein. Work extra hard at exercise, then rest, etc.  By ALL means, stay the course.  My body will hold like that, then drop for no apparent reason.
