Has anyone read Valerie Burtinelli's book "Losing it, and gaining my life back"?? I was thinking about putting it in my amazon cart after reading the free prologue.

LOL! It's so true.... I love to read about success stories where ever I can. I'm also a sucker for those trials-of-life type memoirs. Blackbird, The Glass Castle, the follow up to Blackbird (can't remember the title). DH and I were in the book store yesterday here in and I was looking to buy Valerie's book or something like it. It was too funny... the book store actually had a section called "Tragic Life Stories." I grabbed DH and walked him over there, he just BUSTED into laughter at that!!! It was exactly what I was looking for! Sometimes people over here in really cut to the chase. :)  Anyways, I think I'm going to wait for the book to come out in paper back or get one of her used copies on amazon when I get back to the in a couple months.

Try the books by Dave Pelzer. He was abused as a child and overcame it to become a wonderful father to his own son. I believe there are 3 books to the series. They are truly heart wrenching, jaw dropping, and tear jerking. Some of the best underdog to success books I have ever read. Gianna is another one that pulls at you.  Frankly, right now I am reading The Thornbirds for the third time. I absolutely love it. Beth

I read it.  It seems to me that she had a fairly easy time with her journey, or at least the book did not go into detail about her weight loss struggles.  It does focus on her marriage issues, infidelity, drug use, etc.  It wasn't the most interesting autobiography I've ever read but it was ok.  I would suggest buying a used copy off amazon - the cheapest you can find.

Hummm maybe I'll wait until it comes out in paperback, and then get a used copy! I'm not in the mood to read about someone having a fairly easy weight loss journey........ I need the ups and the downs!  Anyone ever read a really good dieting memoir?? Not a "diet book" but someone's personal story of weight loss...
