Who was trying to eat oatmeal but didn't like it?

I saw a recipe that might make it more palatable for you.

They suggested you make it as usual but add some pureed butternut squash (to taste).  This improves the nutrient content plus the butternut squash has a natural sweetness.

Also, I add 1 teaspoon cinammon cause I like cinammon... but I recently read a research article that said  a teaspoon of cinammon added will lower your blood glucose levels and slows the digestion (so feel full longer).

yes indeed. I put cinnamon and raisins in mine to sweetn it up.
It is such a hearthy healhty breakfast for little calories (with skim milk)

Dr Oz (here I go again LOL) also says cinnamon does something to the system and to the grhelin who makes us hongry. He suggest having some cinnamon helps you curb your appetite.

we also have a WW recipe.
cut an apple into parts or circles
put some sweetener and cinnamon on it
put it in microwave for a minute

it is like eating a bit of warm apple pie jummmm

Hey Em!   Good to see you on here more :) Means you much be feeling much better. I know i was one of the people who didn't like plain oatmeal. I tried putting just some sugar in it but it still didn't really give it a sweet taste like i am use to..and i didnt want to use sweetners of any kind. Thank you for the idea..it is def. worth a try!

Thanks, I am in the half alive/ half dead phase at the moment.  I am more or less forced by my lack of normal movement to sit about reading books, playing Monopoly, watching TV, playing play station and of course POSTING ON OH forums!!!!!! and checking my email at least 4 times a day....

Today I did venture to the shops for a quick coffee following a slow walk in.

Perhaps it was you who had asked about oatmeal recently?

Oatmeal is an acquired taste - i know several people who can't like it (not me, love that stuff!) I was going to suggest trying steel cut oats - check bin stores for best price.  they are more chewy and hearty if the texture is an issue. They take a long time to cook.  I do 3 c water and 1 c steel oats, little salt. Bring to a boil, then simmer for about 10 minutes.  That is enough for ~3 good sized portions.   Put the rest in bowls, take to work, heat in microwave! Or a snack - I have been known to eat oats at lunch - what the heck?  why not? LOVE blueberries in it, and has been said, cinnamon or maple flavoring and a bit of brown sugar. DH buys this maple flavored sugar sprinkle stuff - no calories..it is wonderful. Try it on sweet potaotes, apples, etc. Butter and a bit of sugar is awesome on oats! Just resist using too much. I also love toasted walnuts.

Oh you Neecee! have me drooling to try those oat options...

I LOVE those really textured oaty oats... yummy.  I never thought of taking them to work

I read that quick cook oats are not low GI like regular oats.
