Changed My Mind
Hello Everyone! I am on my ninth day of a fourteen day preop diet for lapband and I've change my mind about having the surgery. I am 24 years old and I have been overweight since I was 17. I truly thought I was overweight because I was hungry but these past nine days have taught me the difference between head hunger and actual hunger. Plus, I have left my highly stressful job that I have worked at since I was 18. I truly think at this point in my life I am ready to make a big change in my life and my eating habits. I plan to be on this message board a lot for support. So far I have lost 7 lbs of my 128 lb goal. I'm going to make mini goals so that it doesn't seem so far away! With a trip to Disney World in five months - my goals is to lose 35 to 50 lbs by then. I haven't completed ruled out WLS in my future but I'm going to try my HARDEST to really give myself a shot this time. I'm going to do a small breakfast (oatmeal w/fruit), a slimfast for lunch and then a Weigh****chers meal (by this I mean a meal I cooked out of the WW cookbook). I'm getting ready to go out and buy a bike too and ride it everyday becasue I tend to get bored with indoor workouts. Sorry this turned out to be a long introduction - I just had a lot to get off my chest. Thanks for listening!!

Mini Goal 1 - Lose 50 lbs by Disney World (43 lbs left to go)!
Hi Dis! Glad you stopped in. And...even as little as I know about you, I think you likely did the right thing by waiting. At age 24, it is worth a shot to do it on your own!
WLS does not fix your bad habits - only you making better choices most of the time will!
I know for me, my research into WLS has changed me and how I think about weight loss. Finally, after years of food abuse, and yo-yoing, I think I get it now - this is foever, maintenance looks a lot like the weight loss process, just perhaps a little more food, but never, ever, will I be bale to eat all foods I want in just any old amount.
I'm learning to still get foods i love into my food plan so that I do not feel deprived and make sure I eat foods that are good for me even if i don't *really* want to eat them (for me it's veggies - have to work hard to get them down!)
i am twice your age. Luckily, I have never been morbidly obese...cuz in my opinion and research, if a person is 40 and 100# plus pounds overweight, the chances get slimmer and slimmer to get weight off and keep it off. Never impossible, just not good.
My comment about your food plan is...well where is the rest of it??? No offense, but a slim fast for lunch will be hard to get thru til supper! May work once in a while, but I would suggest that you make plans for days when it won't help much. Can you add in a healthy snack or two? I am glad to see that you do plan WW suppers - those should have lots of variety.
Anyway, nice to meet ya! Welcome.
I keep WW soup (0 points) and this recipe of broccoli cauliflower salad (1 pt per cup) to snack on when I get hungry. SlimFast keeps me full for 3-4 hours and I'm going to start eating dinner earlier and cutting out any snacking at least 2 hours prior to bedtime. Thanks for your comments and the support!
Hi Disney
welcome on here. You'll find people who are in the same struggle as you are: to learn to live healhty and get fit and lose weight, without WLS. (like me )
and you'll find some heroes who already did it and are still struggling to maintain. It is never over. But it can be done, without surgery.
But you have to realize it is forever and the BEST thing is to learn to eat a good and healhty diet, with some snack, some modest indulgences (spelling prob wrong again) and lots of daily exercise (not necesarily gym)
So while your plan will lose you weight, it will be harder to keep it up. I do not know of your time schedule and finances, but maybe weigh****chers is worth a short?
They have an excellent program to reteach yourself a new way of life.
I wish you succes and come on here a lot to give and receive support!
