I step on the scale....and according to his ghetto prehistoric scale I had dropped 20 pounds from the alst visit...FANTASTIC right? Down 53 pounds. Ok....seriously I am not sure if I took it wrong or not. I felt as if he was telling me I didn't lose enough!? 5 weeks 20 pounds HELLO! He's like do you feel that it isnt working as good? Im like WTF!? But yea truth is yes I feel immuned. So he prescribes me 37.5 Tablet. But along with that he gives me a prescription for Metformin..... Never heard of it in my life. He said it should push along my weight loss like in the beginning. I'm like ok WHATEVER! Well I am looking it up....its for diabetes type 2! And it has I am pretty sure a high risk of getting lactic acidosis. I am scared to take this I already dropped the script off at Rite-Aid. I mean I mind as well try it but seriously I am reading about it and I am scared of it like no other!!!! Any thoughts on this?

Trust your gut, not your doc ; / I don't hold docs in high esteem...it's all about trial and error and a "little knowledge".

Obviosuly, he thinks you haven't lost enough or are slowing down.  But heck...you DON'T EAT ENOUGH  and you are at a speedy pace.   I don't like this one bit. Call him and ask for a detailed explanation.

When I was there he told me it would block glucose or make it where my insulin would work better or who knows. But I ended up calling Rite-Aid and telling them I just want the Phentermine filled and not the Metformin. I just read about it and got bad gut feelings and said to myself I am happy at the pace I am losing and I am fine with just Phentermine. So yea. I am staying with what I know.

Yes, Metforman is used by many people with Diabetes type 2. It's also given to pts. with high insulin levels who are PRE type 2 diabetics.  My insulin level was (and still is) way too high and my doctor prescribed a low cal diet and 1000mg of Metforman a day. Having a high insulin level causes people to have a hard time losing weight and it will eventually lead to type 2 Diabetes. I really want to get pregnant this year so I was more than willing to take the Metforman. Unfortunately I had a extremely bad reaction to the Metforman. Dr reduced my pills and I still was having problems. Since I had started to lose weight (I also think I was at about 10-15 pounds WL in a month) she took me off it completely. She said since I was having such a bad reaction to the meds and since I was seeing WL results through dieting it was ok to go off of the Metforman.  In a way I wish I could have taken it since I'm at such a high risk of getting type 2 Diabetes and I am desperate to lower my insulin and my weight. Find out your insulin levels! Get your insulin tested again after 3-4 months of dieting/losing. If your insulin goes down without the Medforman then I'd say don't feel bad about not taking it. If you don't have any side effects Metforman WILL make you lose the weight fast.

how many months have you been on this pill already? I know my doctor told me that its just a form of speed..and that you should take a pill like 3 days on and 2 days off..and you can only  be on them for 3 months because they are very addicting!!!

Hey Girl.. I was on Metformin for a long time.  It was rx'd to me for type II but he told me that people have also seen weight loss with this medication.  Unfortunately I experienced too much gastrointestinal distress with it, but I've talked to many folks who have had no problem with it.. I hope this works out well for you. Lori
