So much temptation... also update

As you all know I'm in NJ.. up at my sister's house.  I was living out of my car for the first week basically.. lol  All my stuff was in the trunk.  I was 2 full days here, then was doing days here and nights at my other sister's house about 4 towns away.  The day starts at 5 am ... and since that sister works so late and lives in such a small apt, I tried like anything to do the do in the morning without waking her so I could be here before Joycey wakes up.  After food and meds, I waited for the eldest sister, Edie, to wake up to care for Joyce while I run back for a shower.  Then I run back here to take her for radiation, give her lunch, get her in for a nap.. left her with Edie while I ran for supplies. Here's the temptation.  Well, it stands to reason that people have been coming and going here all day and night for the last week and a half.  Of course my sister, being the good hostess she is, was worried about making sure there was always something to offer.  NO PROBLEMO!  The first night wasn't too bad with meat and cheese trays and fruit bowls, veggie tray and dip and some store bought cake... but each day following there were tons of cookies and cakes (I got my sister a cheesecake too.. she gets the munchies with the decadron lol.. so we feed her like a little stuffed oinker).  The night before last.. the motherload came... I picked up some nice Italian cookies for Joyce and while I was there I thought "Hmm.. Bobby (my brother-in-law) sure would LOVE some pastry".  I got a pound of mini's and there were a couple of canoli in there.   Hell YEA I was tempted!  I would have LOVED to self-medicate with canoli cream!!  lol  or an Enteman's pound cake or coffee crumb.. or donuts...  and all that jazz.  Instead I rolled a piece of provolone inside a piece of turkey. According to my sister's scale, I gained 5 lbs... but it's not my scale and also, I was 16 hours in the car the day I came up and I know what those long rides do to my fluid levels. Last night I moved in here with Joyce... pillows, backpack, makeup, blowdryer.. soaps, skin creams, the whole arsenal.. and today I get to clean out the car and prepare to do the do for tomorrow.  Today I also get to hit on the lasix.. AMEN... I could use a little pain relief in these fattened, fluffy fingers! Still no official exercise and this  will make me crazy...  but I may have time after radiation and laundry on Wednesday because another sister is off that day.   I can't believe how much my sister is eating!!  LOL  It's funny!  She awoke from a nap yesterday and dove head first into a vat of icecream cake leftovers.  Then I carefully removed the lid to leftover rotisserie (sp) chicken and quickly pulled back fingers and toes as she mowwed down.  She's up to 104 lbs but doesn't want us to let her go over 112.  LOL  Twit....  She's like "c'mon Lor, have some of this cake with me... I hate eating alone".    UT UH.. Oh... My sister and her bf, my eldest sister and me all got on the front lawn and did the time warp for Joyce. LOLOL...  bunch of old women hopping around singing "it's a jump to the left.."  She was on the porch watching us and said "I'm glad it's a brain tumor so people don't think I'm stupid for laughing".. LOL  Another day Another do God Bless yaz! Lori

Sometimes when **** like this presents itself to you you just have to do the best you can. Priorities take over and we really look at what life is all about.  Don't look at it as resisting temptation, look at it as keep yourself healthy for your sister.  You know if you start eating that garbage you are going to feel like crap and it's going to reflect in the way you live your days.  Worth it?? I'm sure you'd agree that it isn't. Good luck and god bless you for taking care of yours. Donna

That's what I told her, Donna... "If I don't take care of me darlin', I can't take care of you!!"  (as she's stuffing two of those snowballs into her mouth).. LOL  I'm just so happy she's piggin' out.   My other sister gained about 10 lbs while she was here this past week.   That would probably bring her up to about 125...   I SO do not fit in with these people.. lol

Lori, I'm not one to give you a "be strong" talk right now since I am sitting ehre with cherry M&M's next to me. I know you have to really be stressing out so just stay as strong as you can and take each day one minute at a time if you have to.  I wish I had been there to see the time warp. That had to be hilarious. Tell Joyce she's not the only one that would have been laffing.  Just keep doing the do and give Joyce a hug for me and I will be praying. Beth

Beth... step AWAY from the M&M's!  lol   Na...  I'm good.. I don't need a "be strong" thingie.  Her friend brought over homemade creampuffs tonight (an Italian pastry chef) and I sniffed 'em...  I remember what they taste like.  They were saying "just have one, it won't kill ya".  I could only say "All it takes is ONE... so I'll have me a diet iced T!"  LOL  It's a lot easier to resist than I thought.   OH MAN.. the time warp was FUNNY right out on the front lawn in front of God and everybody.  We need to recruit more people for it.   My sister hasn't stopped laughing for a solid week.  One thing is for certain.. we're all idiots and we all laugh at each other's idiocy.   We have her drinking this Noni juice.  She resists this...  First she said that we're making her drink this crap because we don't have to.  So me and my other sister did Noni shots in front of her to show her it's ok...    THEN she told me if I get my nose pierced with a chicken bone she'll drink the whole bottle... Anyone know someone who pierces with chicken bones in north Jersey?  LOL We're all doing the do.. the oldest sister will be back next week and tomorrow starts week 2 of radiation.  On the first day, three of us were there with her and when she came out we put on our sunglasses telling her she was glowing green.  She could hardly stand up and she laughed so hard we had to catch her in the handoff from the doctor... lol   Laughter is mandatory!!  lol Thanks Beth! Cherry M&M's?? That sounds really good!
I am soooo glad that I do not live in the States. I would weigh 600 pounds if I did.

Lori, you did not do bad! Just keep rolling with the punches

Lori, I look forward to your updates.  Joyce is so blessed to have you and your other sisters. I admire your resistance to temptations.  You are doing so great.  It is wonderful that you got some weight on Joyce. I hope and pray you will be able to find time to get exercise in there somewhere.  While Joyce is in for her treatment, maybe you can ask nurses where they exercise.  Wouldn't it be wonderful if they have a place in the hospital and they allow you access?  (Well I can dream, can't I?)  You will never know if you don't ask.  The way I see it, as long as I can take "no" for an answer, then I can always ask about something.  In my logic, they have a chapel in all hospitals.  I would think it logical that they might have a place to exercise too.

There's no time during treatment.  They take her right in and the whole thing lasts about 5 minutes.  It's just a zap with a super xray..then the doctor walks her out and hands her to us.  I run for the car, the other sister takes her out.  I'm so glad it's not traumatic.  She was so scared the first day and came out of it smiling saying "it's nothing.. go try it".  LOL
