Completely OT - Your Opinion (long)
Hey girlie! Yes, I think I will ask to speak with her tomorrow (if it goes badly I have the weekend as a buffer!) :-)
I do value this job and I like my job, just don't particularly like her. I am pretty easy to get along with too and I have NEVER had anything like this happen anywhere else I've worked.
I am taking my honeymoon whether paid or not -- just like you said, it's only happening once! I am going to pose some questions to her tomorrow and we'll see what she has to say.....
I read over that part more carefully about extending your probation - do be grateful that she is doing that, as ****ty as it must feel - it means you have more time. If your state is like ours, they could've let you go, wham bam, no thank you ma'am...no excuses no reasons.
So DO accept that she must see some good things in you or she could have cut you loose. do have that meeting with her and ask for periodical meetings to touch base and get mood checks from her. oh and pucker up....butt kissing majoris is on the work schedule for oh about 6 more months! LOL
See that is what I have a problem with! I hate kissing ass. I've always felt if you give it your best and do a good job you shouldn't have to kiss ass! My friend was right, working in government is all about politics!
She pushed the whole issue about it doing me a favor and if that is the case then I am glad she did.....it just ****** me off that she is considering this excessive time off.
Once you are permanent, less ass kissing will be expected! Right now, you have ZERO rights. She knows it, and wants to see how will react.
Even self employed people kiss butt...star employees, customers, etc. I'm not saying sell out - i'm saying get a new view of butt kissing. It makes the business world go around.
And marriages...LOL
Hmmm... is there anything the company gets OUT of- if you stay on a probationary period? Like were you to get insurance? A good raise? ANYTHING? Is this "probation" going to benefit THEM in any way?
To me, it almost sounds like they are not wanting it to look like you HAVE the job secured. KWIM?
We have a store here that tends to put a lot of people on "part time/seasonal". But they'll work them full time. They'll lay them off just the days they have to- In this way, they don;t have to give them insurance benefits!
This kinda stuff really sucks! It makes me all the happier to be self employed.
I got insurance starting the day I started so that is not an issue. Where they will benefit and I def. won't is the fact that my annual reviews (read that: RAISE eval.) will be put off another 6 months. I think the job is secure (I hope), I just think they are looking at this completely wrong.
I've been in management, in her spot, and I know people who abuse the system (hmm...like her). I am not one of those people and it irks me they are not recognizing that.
I am working on the self-employment -- always been my dream -- just have to figure out exactly what I want to do for myself. I have ideas but I need to be sure it's going to support me!
This is definitely a sticky situation. The sad part is, our employers give us earned time off but they don't REALLY expect us to take advantage of it. Neecee is right when she says that employers should definitely understand the benefit of time off for motivation and productivity. If people were allowed a little bit of leeway in their day they wouldn't be so frustrated all the time.
I work for our County. Talk about "rules" and "regulations". Today I was told that I wouldn't get the mileage for driving to the City for my training last week. I was told that the County had approved a train ticket and that if i didn't use that I get nothing. Funny part is, the County's portion of my travel would have been around $42.00. A round trip train ticket to the City from the station THEY approved was $55.00. So I'm not getting paid but if I took the train I'd get the money. Go figure.
I had a job once where the manager at my 6 month probation period said that "it wasn't working out." I was shocked. I felt like, rightfully so, I had done a great job. Others in the department and those I worked with outside of the department were shocked. She clearly didn't like me so she decided to make my life miserable. She gave me the option of resigning so she didn't have to "fire" me. I brought it to the union and fought it but in the end she made my life so painfully uncomfortable that I just left. Once they look at you a certain way there is not a whole lot you can do to recoup that respect. Sucks, not something i like believing or wanting to be true, but it is, sadly.
I don't know what to tell you other than just take a deep breath and tell her that you frankly have an issue with the way she is using approved time off against you. She approved it, it wasn't like you randomly took a friday or a monday off from week to week. This is definitely something you need to document and have them put into your personnel folder.
Is there another department in the same company you can work at? Sometimes working with someone after something like this has happened is downright impossible.
Good luck and keep us posted.
Sometimes I wonder if the government has ANY common sense -- local or not..... I work for the city and I could almost bet you they would do something very similar to your train situation. How crazy!
If she told me "it isn't working out" I don't know what I would do. I would be shocked, hurt, and really scared to be trying to find a job right now! I am not even going to think about that! All of this makes me nervous though!
There is a plethora of other jobs I could apply for within the local government, however.......so ironic huh? I can't post out if I am ON PROBATION!!!! grrrrr...
I'll let y'all know what happens tomorrow.
