Ok, I always knew that the liver would burn off alcohol FIRST in preference to fat, but I guess I should have kept in mind about the quicker intoxication (NOW I know).... ESPECIALLY if no other food is consumed to slow absorption.  I guess that's why I thought I was still able to drink.  I did drink pinot griggio in December.. but WITH dinner.  I'm thinking.. ok.. if I'm going the self medicating route with some stoli's... I gotta lay off the fat for this one day so I don't overdo it on the calories.   Now I'm gonna be hunting down how long it takes for alcohol to come out of your system.  I swear, I was much better at "drinking" in college.   I got on the scale and saw 221 this morning and figure that I must have dehydrated a little.. but I'm throwing MASSIVE ketones.. more than ever.. I guess that means.... ::cry:: that the crap is still in my liver keeping my fat from being burned to a crisp. I'm so stupid. Will Drinking Alcohol Affect Ketosis: Yes and no.  The liver can make ketones out of alcohol, so technically when you drink you'll continue to produce ketones and so will remain in ketosis.  The problem is alcohol converts more easily to ketones than fatty acids, so your liver will use the alcohol first, in preference to fat.  Thus, when you drink, your fat burning is put on hold until all of the alcohol is out of your system.  This rapid breakdown of alcohol into ketones and acetaldehyde (the intoxicating by-product) tends to put low carbers at risk for quicker intoxication.. especially if no other food is consumed to slow absorption.

No.. .lol.. didn't have a good time.  Just wanted the tranquilizing effect but it's so not worth it.  I can't seem to find out how long it takes to come out of ya!!!!    Anyway.. if you should drink.. remember that fruit juices ... mixers have sugars.  I prefer vodka, triple sec and lime.. but if I do indulge.. it's a vodka gimlet or just on the rocks.

HOWever....all my vendor guy friends drink the Stoli on the rocks and continued to lose weight  like nobody's business, so did i when on Atkins. That is when I leanred to drink fresca + vodka, or buy diet tonic water.  That is a habit I kept - the mixers is the bad part fo those trying to lose weight. I must confess...on Atkins I got waaaay drunker, therefore likely caused more liver damage. I was not eating that much is what happened, so I could not hold my moosh either. I find I don't need much alcohol these days either - again, not eating much, so that buzz level requirement backed off. I drink 2-4 drinks and get plenty high - before, well i would hate to admit how much i could suck back. Frommy nutrition classes, alcohol actually assimilates more like a fat than a carbohydrate! It is not technically classified as neither a carb, fat or fat, though. Lori, you just can't hang with the Big Dogs anymore!  LOL....I meant to go in and tease you on that.

It's comforting to know that your friend drinks stoli's and still loses weight... and that you drank and still lost weight.  THIS IS NOT PROMOTING RECREATIONAL DRINKING  (tee hee).

I cannot BELEIVE how ferschnickered I got on my poison of choice!  I've been drinking this since.. ooh... um... oohhh....  well...guess I killed too many brain cells to remember.

I had one Stoli Gimlet when we dined out last week... but was feeling a little icky about drinking lime juice.

I hadn't gone out in ages.. so didn't drink anything for those years I stayed hidden in the house.  The wine in December didn't get to me.. then again.. I was half pouring my glass and filling his glass.. we did put down a bottle of Pinot Griggio between us though..  good schtuff Maybe the further along I get in this... the lower my tolerance.  It doesn't matter.. it's only extra calories anyway...  I can live with my new friend "Cherry Coke Zero"... and have my ocassional indiscretion with a diet Snapple!!  YUMSTERS! I ate this morning... I don't know how much.  I made a total of three eggs w/sausage in it.. sprinkled with cheese and put the better portion of that on Jon's plate.  My stomache is like "well.. what's it gonna be.... in or out"... LOLOL

yeah, fer real, THIS IS NOT PROMOTING RECREATIONAL DRINKING  (tee hee). My one friend Judy who had WLS now 6 years ago told me that she started up with her vodka & whiskey 6 weeks after surgery...yep you read it right. Judya and my other vendor buds drink like every day, i am dead cereal here. They are on the road nearly all year long. On their vacations, they step it up from there! She lost 110% of her weight - in fact her doc was a little scared for her. It is just interesting - and not recommendable, of COURSE! There's an arugment that Judy's surgery afforded her to get off 3 prescription drugs, therefore saving her liver a little bit? Her symptoms of lupus, diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis are gone or are so subsided that she takes almost no meds. She looks healthier than she ever has since i have known her.

"to get off 3 prescription drugs, therefore saving her liver a little bit?" yea... I used to get my liver checked every three months.  I was taking a LOT of Tylenol.. I mean.. I was carrying a huge bottle with me... had one in the house... a big bottle of Aleve.  Anything to try to relieve the pain a little.  The doc actually told me to stop and gave me a low dose of narcotics because my liver couldn't take it anymore.  I was like.. OH.. but my liver likes narcotics.. ay?    HAHhahhaa  I don't know about my liver, but my stomache is like "da booze is deadly".  I've been trying to EAT today.  I don't think I think about eating often enough sometimes cause I get too full too quickly. I look forward to the day I don't have to open my eyes and reach for my bayer aspirin just to be able to make a cup of coffee... I guess my time is coming!  If your friend's conditions cleared up with the weight loss.. well.. duh... my pain will go away too.. no?  40 lbs to my first goal...  I would love to not have my hands ache and burn and throb and lose the hip pain that wakes me up all night..

I was a very expensive drunk, pre-op. Never a habitual drinker, but I could drink anyone under the table. High BMI plus good practice, y'know. I had two shots of peach schnapps on my bday ths year and nearly passed out. Cheap date now! Too cheap, in fact-- I don't like the speed in which it hits you and leaves. It's because without a pyloric valve, all you consume hits your intestines at once-- and your bloodstream in seconds. You go from zero to 60 in literally three minutes-- we timed it. I doubt I will drink again. No fun anymore!

I liked the ocassional hairy navel myself.... when the OJ got to be a problem.. that just turned into a hairy.   That HAD to make you sick...  My intestines tell me off the next day... so it had to hit you fast and furious.
