Yep, still preggers!!!  But newly diagnosed with Anemia and Gestational Diabetes and in a definite brain fog due to the hormones, working and going to school full time.  I CAN'T THINK STRAIGHT!!! Any helpful suggestions on how to eat as a diabetic would?  I can handle what to do with the anemia.   But have absolutely nothing left in the brain right now to even come up with a meal plan for today's lunch much less for the next couple of months! HAILP!!!

I previously had elelvated insulin but not diabetes and am insulin resistant.  I went on Atkins. I just say stick to veggies, fats and proteins until LVS pops on with advice.

No, you need that balanced diet being pregnant. I had gestational diabetes also. Didn't they send you to a nutritionist? They usually do when a pregnant lady has gestational diabetes. If not call back your doctor and demand one. She'll give it to you, I think she has too! She will be more than happy to give you the referral. Did you get your little strips and get taught how to work everything? Something just doesn't sound right.

Until you call your doctor, NO sugar is allowed, and eat a balanced diet with eating in moderation. Measure everything to make sure you are only eating a serving of the food.

Call her and tell her you need a little bit more help than just throwing it at you. This isn't normal diabetes where you can go without some food. You got a baby in the oven. Call your doctor and tell her you need help with your new equipment and to see a nutritionist.

I actually ended up losing weight when I had gestational diabetes. Don't worry its not hard. It's just basically eating without eating processed foods, fast foods, or sugar. It's basically eating healthy. Doing your blood glucose to see where your levels will be at will tell you what foods you can eat and can't eat. Like peanut butter, I could eat that before eating rice. Rice just went sky rocketing on me.

Good luck!

H there! Like Holly, I too had GD. It sucked! But once you figure it all out- it isn't all that bad! What I did was, ate good. I stayed away from the pop..had NO sodas at all. I was very careful to *only* eat fruits etc., for my sugars (they told me natural sugars are better for you and stay with you longer)  I ate right. I just plain ate right. And if I was unsure I had enough sugars over the hours of the day- now and then, I had a quarter cup of apple or orange juice etc. Just remember that if YOUR levels are up... so are your babies. Whatever level YOURS is... your tiny baby has the same. They are so little it's hard for their little bodies to work with that. The crazy thing about GD is- the *instant* that baby is born... you are no longer diabetic! (but your risk of acquiring diabetes IS greater after having GD)  The thing that kept ME in line with my levels was when my Dr explained to me that he had recently delivered a baby who's mom did NOT keep her levels in check- and the babe had to be on a glucose drip for a couple days after birth to be weaned OFF the glucose. I was told to eat all the foods on the pyimid, but to eat many TINY meals throughout each day. Because the goal is to keep the glucose LEVEL- not spiking or staying high. Hang in there! You will get through this and in the end... you will have a precious little bundle that will make all these struggles look very small :) :)

I would have the doctor direct you....   I'm surprised they diagnosed you without going into how you should eat..    One thing is certain.. there is a distinct difference between all types of diabetes and you have a wee one to worry about...

Call the doc up and say "hey.. what do I eat to help me out with the iron, work with the gestational diabetes, and keep this baby nourished properly".  <-- just read this line so you don't have to think.. LOL
