"  If you don't let your body have it, it doesn't accept it in the long run.  " It's not that, Hol, it's whether or not your body can handle what that high GI food does.  It can be 5lbs of water, to be sure, or it can trigger the body to store food as fat.   I actually agree with you about balance in one's diet, but I don't believe the obese body could generally manage balance for weight loss.  Some, perhaps. Me?  Definitely not.  In balance, I was losing 1/4 lb a week.  I'm eating the same calories and losing more liek 1-3....   The other thing to keep in mind is that with Atkins one eventually reintroduces healthy carbs back and finds the level that works for them.  This is not an only ever eat meat and fats and veggies diet.  You do work up to be almost South Beach like.  The whole purpose though is to do what obese bodies need--get the weight off so the body burns better.

I agree that balance is key for maintenance but I do not believe that I can do balance to lose weight. I've already tried and it just doesn't come off and I'm hungry all the damned time.

WOW. Chris... AMEN!  This is working for you!!!  I gotta be honest.. I want you to exercise more too.. and I don't mean go to the gym and be a meathead.. and not just for losing weight either....  but for your heart and lung health .. looking at the LONG term.   Maybe eventually you'll park the car even further from the office.... maybe start parking in the furthest spot from the store when you shop.  MAYBE TAKE UP ROLLER SKATING!!! YAY!!!  I agree COMPLETELY.. it should be something fun that you ENJOY, but whatever it is you do.. it's MEANT for you... for all of us. I just want you to have a long, healthy happy life kiddo... I'm not trying to get on your case.. you KNOW that....    I don't want to sound condescending in any way.so take this in the motherly tone that I'm saying it... I'M PROUD OF YOU!!!  I'm so glad you found your groove!!

I agree, Lori. Chris, exercise can make you feel soooo good.  It can alleviate depression and create a great high.  Now, I agree y ou can get this doing other stuff you enjoy, and not at a gym necessarily, but IMHO it has to be activity that keeps your heart and body pumping.  Otherwise, why miss out on improving cardio function and strength?  Both will go a long way to giving you a healthy future.

Come to my house, I got an extra hoe and a garden to use it in. My ground is heavily laden with roots.  Git errr dun!!!!  3 minutes and I'm huffing and puffing. Do it for an hour and I'm wore slam the F out.  :D   Do I do it everyday?  Nope.  Which is where the gym would come in handy.

I have two boys who think gardening is fun.  Maybe they could come and help you get it done.  but they might take too many breaks.  Who knows?

I've pretty much gotten it done.  I'm trying to grow some early crops to see how they fair but I'm thinking I'll have to retill and replant in May.  The ones I planted aren't looking so hot at the moment!

"Maybe eventually you'll park the car even further from the office...." Eegads!!  It's already a 1/2 mile from the office, how much further should I go??? I already do most of the things you're talking about like parking farther away. Hell I can't help but to do that at my wal-mart cuz all the lazy fat ass rednecks take all of the close spots. YOOOWEEE j00 C dat uRNhar duTha day? Wooooowweee he shar wuz fas!  Idiots..  Okay..sorry for the rant.. i just hate unintelligent asswipes that act like they can't walk 30 more feet to the dah walmart. See I don't mind exercise at all. I enjoy getting out and doing.  I just refuse to go to the gym or put any type of routine around it.  When I do so I start feeling guilty if I miss one day. I have enough guilt I'm trying to get rid of in my life with food choices. I'm thinking about taking up mountain biking actually.  I just need someone to do it with me because it's boring alone. I want the wife to go but she could care less. I think I'll take the nephews bike to the shop and get it fixed to try it out.
