Atkins Day 12 - Choices are slim when eating out.
Breakfast:
1/4 cup egg beaters with yolk
1 tbsp bacon
1 sausage patty
3 strips pre-cooked bacon
Lunch:
Hibachi chicken and veggies
1/4 cup shrimp sauce
Dinner:
8 oz T-Bone
1 grilled veggie skewer
1/2 cup sauteed mushrooms
3 peanuts
I'm out of food for lunch at home so I ate at the "Stinky Noodle" today. We call it that because..welll it stinks. It's a japanese joint in uptown. The food tastes alright but when I when I ordered veggies I expected broccoli, zucchini, carrots, etc... What I got was what I think was cabbage..Probably napa cabbage with broccoli, some zucchini and carrots. I pushed the carrots to the side and ate the rest. I'm not sure on the carb count on cabbage but my gut tells me I had too many carbs today. I had some gas tonight. Won't be eating there anymore.
Dinner was quite tasty. Went to Logans for a nice steak dinner. Their grilled veggied skewer was BETTER than the t-bone! Next time I think I'll get the filet mignon. I've got leftover steak in the fridge.. Wasn't any leftover veggies! hehehe
Busy weekend ahead. A wedding tomorrow.. I'm not yet sure how I'm going to get through the reception. Hopefully they have chicken wings. Going to see Larry the Cable Guy tomorrow night as well. Looking forward to that!
You totally read my mind this morning Chris. I just spent the past 1/2 hour going through google searches on "healthy eating at a Mexican restaurant". I think that Mexican is by FAR the worst to choose from. Lard and heavy sauces, oils, yuck!!! So anyhow, in order to make my boyfriend happy, knowing that Mexican is his favorite food, I'm heading there tonight. I'm thinking something along the chicken fajita route, opting out of the guacamole and sour cream. Weekends are a two meal day for us usually so I did breakfast, 455 calories, and then I have another 1100 or so for dinner. Wish me luck!!!!!!!
you notice that nobody ever says "have you ever seen a fat Mexican?" like they do when they talk about Chinese food. I hope you get that, and it doesn't sound racist. LOL
Yes, Mexican sucks. I'm going to just basicaly suck it up and choose the best I can, it's that simple. Like I told Chris, I have like 1100 calories. But just like I wouldn't eat 1100 calories worth of cake, I hate to look at those calories as "needing to be used" in any way. So dilemmas dilemmas. I'm actually thinking of eating a turkey wrap right before we go so that I don't feel so famished and choose badly in the end. i kinda know I won't choose badly, I've been doing too good lately.
I have to work from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. tonight so I'm figuring that after eating I wont' be just sitting around, so I'll also be able to work off a few of those calories. I am working at the ER so I know I'll be on my feet all night, so some consolation.
Well, back from the Mexican restaurant. I could have had a chicken cesar salad -- why in a Mexican restaurant I can't say LOL -- or a taco salad, but not sure about all that cheese. So there was an item that had two chicken breasts with sour cream. Not sure of the significance of the sour cream but I asked for it on the side and then gave it to my SO. So of course it came with refried beans and rice, again gave them to SO after a forkful to me!!! But the chicken was really just grilled, not soaking in anything, not floating in anything. It seemed like it had a bit of a red rub of sorts on it. Originally John thought it was chipotle or something, but there was like almost no flavor. So I ate one of the chicken breasts and gave him the other, plus the tortillas which he proceeded to make snack wraps with. I did try the nice warm tortilla chips they put on the table with salsa, however, this time they weren't fresh and they were kinda icky. So I only ate one, so no issue there. Not worth eating if it tastes like crap.
So in the end not a bad trip. I figured the whole thing at 500 calories which I think is high but works for me! I'm lucky I don't LOVE Mexican food. My idea of good Mexican is a quesadilla.
So weird how things are different for different people--- for me, Mexican is my go-to food! A half a quesadilla has a bucket of protein, some good ol' American fat (which I need more of) and tastes great-- and I eat the rest the next day. LOVE Mexican!

Mexican is usually easy for me. I mean I am not on a ny STRICT diet over here or anything...I eat normal food. But I know I always go for a taco salad or something called "Mamas Skinny Enchiladas"
Wherever I go I always look to see if they have healthier choices on the menu they usually put them on their own little spot ya know how they seperate things on a menu and what not. If they dont have anything I go for a salad...or if I feel like it the bad stuff I dont eat much of it anyways so...
But low carb....easy...just order things without bread, tortillas, and such
