Today is day five of SB and so far have done really well.  Last night I got a really bad stomach ache, although it is TOM but I really don't think it was that because my stomach hurt all the way up until today when I ate breakfast.  I felt very hungry.  TOM cravings possibly??

Today I am clueless of ideas of what to eat beside cottage cheese, string cheese, eggs, and chicken.  My heart is pounding a little more than usual and I still feel hungry but nothing seems to be taking away the craving.  I've already had my snac****il dinner time.  I'm trying to keep busy cleaning house.  I just feel really yucky, like I'm having withddrawals almost.  THInk my hands are even shaking a tad bit tell you the truth.  I do have bad periods (female problems), with this and not eating starches cause this to happen??  The idea of binging keeps coming into my head but I'm trying to shake it. I need to go ge****er but afraid too, because I don't want the temptation.  Do I need to increase my protien?  Nothing? What?

Today so far I've had

B: omlett with onions and mushrooms, two turkey bacon strips, and v8 juice

S: string cheese

L 2 stalks celery with natural peanut butter, one serving lf lunch meat with onion

S: 1/2 c cottage cheese

Help!

Never mind.  I think I had a weak moment.  lol  Ive been thinking while doing the dishes.  I think about five days in any diet off starchy foods is about when I start having a hard time for a while.  It will pass, it's just going to suck for a few days.  Got to stay inside until it wears off , I don't like being tempted.  Not at this stage anyways. When I was on medifast if I wasn't working I had to be sleeping for a while.  Anything to get my mind off of it.

Makes ya really wonder how much of this is really psychological!

Holly...hang in there.  I think a lot of it is psychological....but definitely a physiological component too.  I think it's natural to go through a period of "withdrawal" from the carbs.  I know the SB website talks about this the first few days too. Today is day one for me and I had the same feelings about the same time of day....between afternoon snack and dinner.  It wasn't really a feeling of true hunger but just a gnawing "empty" feeling that kind of made me anxious....I'm prone to anxiety attacks anyway, but can usually recognize the feeling and talk myself out of them.  I really wanted to grab a banana, but decided to have the dairy that I had planned for dinner then instead.  Mixed a little almond flavoring and cinnamon with my plain yogurt and it seemed to do the trick.  Had a cup of hot herbal tea with it too and it seemed to settle me down. Hope you have a better day tomorrow....you're almost a week into this, girl!  Hang in there!

Okay, some suggestions for food. And yes you are having withdrawals but when you come out on the other side you will be much happier, believe me.  More energetic and all.

Try rolling lunch meat in romaine lettuce.  Try putting some mustard on it for taste, it's really pretty good. Or roll up a pickle with the lunch meat.   Try browning some lean ground turkey and mushrooms and onions, adding some tomato sauce, lots of spices and then simmer it for a whle before sprinkling mozzarella cheese on it.  For breakfast you are doing great, perfect start to your day.  At the beginning I would have two "fried eggs" and turkey bacon.  After the first year or so I added a piece of whole grain bread with Brummels and Brown yogurt spread.  Awesome. What I really liked to do a lot was to make my protein, be it ground turkey, turkey tenderloin, chicken breast, etc., and add a whole lot of vegetables.  I'd make a casserole of sorts and it would appear as if I had a whole lot of food when I really didn't. Holly use your common sense on some things.  No it might not be on the EXACT South Beach list, but you can use some things that will help stretch your food.  They say tomatos are a no no but I found that a can of diced tomatoes or tomatoes with green chilis really helped to stretch a recipe so that I felt amazingly full.  Hey I'm living proof that it worked.  In the end you know what is working and that is the portion control.  I chose to do the low carb approach because of how it made me feel to eat carbs, very yucky.  I stick with it because I really enjoy the way it makes me feel. Right now I am having a renewed committment to my program after traveling and doing that crappy restaurant food for almost 2 weeks.  Last week when I spent most of my time in the hotel room I really felt in control.  When I got home and weighed I had lost 7 pounds.  Don't get excited, I'm not owning those pounds, I had already lost them once before.  LOL  I am merely taking back off what I put back on.  I'll start celebrating when it's new weight coming off, not what I regained.   You are doing great, keep it up!!!!

Sorry about that....got so caught up on your food suggestions, just noticed the 7lb loss in re-reading your entry.  Congratulations!  Hey, doesn't matter if it's "new" weight or "old", it's still a loss and counts in my book!!

Thanks, for one you just mentioned what I was going to do with my dinner. :)  I'm craving ground beef like no ones business for some reason.  And omg mustard sounds so good!ha  LOL, I've never thought mustard would sound good before.  Wow, I must be having withdrawals if I want mustard!haha  That's pretty awful.

You want to hear something, they added tomatoes to the program. You were right all along!

That is good advice though, especially for after the first two weeks since I'm aiming for being on the first phase for a little bit.  I was just reading on the back of morning star veggie sausages and I was wondering why I couldn't have that.  This book doesn't really do very well on explaining on what you all can eat during the first phase.

Now, where is that mustard! ha

I couldn't go back on phase 1 right now if my life depended on it.  For some reason I've found what works once REALLY WELL doesn't always work the best the second time around.  My approach is different now but it's generally the same low carb/low fat approach. I just logged what I ate today and while it seems like a whole lot, it only came to 1415 calories.   I was eating that at one dinner two weeks ago!!!!!!!

That's very true, what works once doesn't always happen again.  I know I really doubt I could do medifast again.  It took me I think about three years to be able to drink bariatric drinks again.  One bad habit I got was that now I LOVE chocolate (from the drinks), which I never had chocolate cravings before.  Sort of a bad idea on their part I think creating something that tastes like a candy bar to eat as your normal meals.  Now though I love to have a protein shake now and then, but just the idea of all the soups and stuff just makes me wanna hurl.lol

I say what ever works!!

Donnamarie...love your idea about the ground turkey mixture...sounds yummy.  Tomatoes are on my list of acceptable Phase 1 foods though.  I see dairy is on it too, where it wasn't on an older version...guess they have made some changes. I just started SB today, so I'll take your suggestions too.  Love getting advice from someone who's been so successful on the program!!  I think probably having lots of variety helps to make it all work.  I am really excited about making this my new lifestyle.
