Psyllium husks

I have it many mornings stirred into my protein drink. I love it.  it is not like your typical Milk of Magnesia effect - it kind of improves texture of stools so that they pass thru efficiently.  I also like to use it on too hungry days - put a tablespoon in a glass of warm water and it fills me up temporarily.  I get it out of bulk bins at the healthfood store - best price.

Good to hear that it doesn't taste too evil.  From what I have read it has 'feel full' qualitities. I was thinking about buying it loose too- glad to hear that it's cheaper that way.

well now, it does not taste GOOD, mind you...i should have been more clear - i like what it does for me.  You can get it powdered, and that does make it fluffier.  It is kind of hard to get down, until you get used to it.  Drink plenty of water with it!

Update.... just bought some and mixed 1 teaspoon full into a yoghurt.  Trust me... it makes you feel full really quickly.  I'll keep you updated with how it it goes over the next few days.

Is Benefiber the same, or similar?  The ingredient is listed as "gluten free wheat dextrin"

no, psyllium is actually teeny tiny slippery seeds - though you can get it powdered. benefiber goes down more easily.

psyllium is not related to wheat.  I did see another brand of fibre suppliment that had "gluten free wheat dextrin" listed on the pack of something similar . I imagine it must bulk in a similar way.

That said, Psyliium has other specific benefits and is herb derived.
