TAKING THE PLUNGE....SB/Atkins-ish?
Hi Yall,
Ummm, ya, its ME...I've been lurkin here, mainly on the VSG forum...Still waiting...Lots of things in the way of surg. so I figured I'd better get going on something! Gonna do South Beach/Atkins mix ? lol...
Anyhoo, I'd heard that one can have regular Ranch dressing on these programs. I haven't gotten any books yet, just wondering if anyone know about salad dressings? I don't like/want the zero calorie/diet dressings Thanks for your help

SB states, "Use 2 TBS of those that contain 3 grams of sugar or less per 2 TBS.. Best choices contain canola or olive oil. Low carb salad dressings may also be used if they meet these guidelines".
Hope that helps....good luck! I'm starting SB on Monday. I considered Atkins but don't honestly think I could adhere that strictly for life.
Yeah, that will work to mix it up. works for me. Of course, if you are able to walk the Iron Line as Jerz does, well hey, be my guest - cuz fer real, that will work. I need reasonable.
All I know after many many diets and sticking to all of them for a time...SB is about where I land on reasonable. Only the usual suspects - white flour, added sugar, saturated fats - are bashed on.
Atkins Induction phase works to get the body kind of in the groove of it all - even a few days will help you see how eating higher GOOD QUALITY fat in less amounts really satisfies you. The area of saturated fats in Atkins toss me, I have to underline that it should be good fats.
For me personally, thought Induction can include saturated fat in whatever amounts you deem possible, i will not try to eat more like 10-15% daily. the American Heart Association & IOM are not filled with crackheads - this is a recommendation they pushed and they are not subversive like the Surgeon general and USDA...trying to kill us all to make a buck. (kidding here!)
I know for sure that I lose eating calories in the 1400-1700 range.
I know for sure I can tolerate better grains and still lose weight if I eat them in small amounts - like 1/2 c at a time, maybe up to a cup here and there. If I suck down "less desirables", like white rolls, white rice, i don't like freak out...i still lose...i know that eating higher grades of grains will get me more satiety!
I try to choose foods that contain less aded sugar.
I try to add veggies & fruits with every meal in some form. Fresh or frozen is best, again, getting the best bang for the buck.
I make sure I move my big butt every day, and love to try for extreme time here and there - like a couple hours of something I love outside - the less it feels like exercise and Iron Lines, the better (though consistent discipline and intensity has its place)
Thanks Neecee, I understand the "good"grain thingy I've never been much of a bread/pasta gotta have type, so cutting those should be easy. Iam simply a sugar freak...lol The good thing is that I don't volume eat, so if I do have a "good grain" it won't be much. My issue will be snackingYour way of eating sounds livable and normal. Thats what I'll be striving for, healthy eating. Iam starting to have some Hypoglycemic symptoms, so really have no choice anymore to be messin around
Even after WLS, people have the same issues as non WLS folks with "grazing" and snacking on poor food choices. Scary eh?
Gotta always work on our minds WLS or not
