nutrition info for steamed broccoli and chicken??????
I've just spend at least 30 minutes trying to find nutritional info for steamed chicken and broccoli. Seems simple - right?? Nothing for chicken steamed without a bunch a crap added. I ate plain, non seasoned steamed chicken and broccoli with sauce on the side - no info anywhere - nada...
I challenge ya - find it ....go ahead, make my day!
Ooooh a challenge, I like these types of challenges! But, my hubby is sick and I wanna go baby em'. :)
Was thinking of something though, in my previous marriage I steamed a bunch of different stuff (asian style), and if you do it anything like I did it, then the grease would be going down in another pan. It wouldn't be sitting in it. So with that in mind, why don't you just look up rotisserie chicken? I would think it would be the same amount of calories. If it was baked with foil around it and steamed then I would call it more like baked chicken. I would think!
I was looking because I went out for dinner and ordered steamed chicken with broccoli, garlic sauce on the side.
I did find enough info for a good "guess-timate" I had to enter the things separately: poached chicken breast, couldn't find steamed broccoli, so I used values listed for boiled, and I found garlic sauce - holy crap - way worse than brown sauce!
I asked for brown sauce - but they brought me garlic sauce. I happily accepted it because I LOVE garlic sauce. It was WAY higher calorie, and sodium than I thought. Good thing I didn't drench my food with it! The whole meal was around 450-500 calories. I did well the rest of the day, so I guess it all evens out.
We ended up eating out also. I ended up eating pretty much the same thing I posted. I had a little sirloin steak with salad and green beans. It was a buffet and wow the desserts and rolls! Ughh, I won't even go there, but wow was I tempted. I didn't go off plan, lol I was sooo excited when we finally stepped foot out that door! Was like a sigh of relief!ha I will say I found one trick I think might work for me in those kinds of places. COFFEE!! After I ate my "one" plate while everyone else ate there normal three, I sat there and enjoyed a cup of coffee. I think the sweetness (splenda) and hotness of the coffee stopped all my cravings for the bad stuff. I will admit tho that I am a really BAD coffeeaholic!! I could probably live off the stuff.
Steamed and boiled, pretty much the same thing. About 35 calories for a cup of the stuff.
I just spent the last 30 minutes preparing for my day of food. SO wants to go out this afternoon for an early dinner/late lunch combo. I just got back from the gym and ate my eggs and turkey bacon with wheat bread. I consumed 455 calories, which for me on a weekend is good because we basically do just the two meals. Well SO wants Mexican. Let me tell you now there is NO way to eat Mexican in a healthy way, there just isn't. So I encouraged him to go to Red Lobster and I can do the grilled or broiled Talapia with steamed broccoli.
I went online to look up some mexican food to see what if anything I could choose. Well let me tell you, I came across Chilis fajitas quesadilla. OMG 1835 calories, 95 grams of fat and 5440 mg of sodium. I just wanted to cry. Thank god I never ate that. It's a huge wake up call when we truly find out the calories in most of the restaurant food out there. Not a pretty sight at all.
If we plan we are good to go. Planning and not getting stuck is really the objective.
Great choices you made!!!
