Sorry--- busy--- It's a German thing-- a kaffee klatsch is where old biddies get together and have coffee and cakes and gossip. Kinda like a "sewing circle", without the sewing.

Right..that's what I read.  Some of the coffee shops around here are like that which is why I guess I said coffee shop. :)  The old biddies hang out at McDonalds, Bojangles and the fish houses around here mostly.  The rednecks go to Waffle House. Your more afluent people hang out in carribou coffee but only casually talk to each other.  Mostly they just read.  Starbucks has kinda become the young crowd gathering place at times.    Thanks for the explanation. :)

I didn't go there for that either.  Did it happen?  Yes.  Perhaps due to me not being prepared for all that could happen there or the connection he and I would have.... Were the communications needy?  NOT for months.  Early on, yes.  I acknowledge that.  And perhaps because he allowed for it--call me anytime, email me questions etc. So, I'd follow up sometimes with questions, particularly as he didn't answer them in group.  Or I'd email some update that was appropriate, such as sharing some new goal.  Mostly it was just business.   Do I understand the nature of the relationship?  Yes.  Does he think so?  I don't think he does and there is the conflict.

I didn't go into the Challenge to be in a coffee klatch, and some emails were about that.  Then many became because he wasn't listening and addressing my needs as I asked him to....

It's your body, your life and your wallet. You can decide the sort of experience you want to have, and make that happen. If you mean business, and are there for your health, nothing else will get in your way. An example from another angle: my Water Aerobic classes were full of nice older ladies who liked to hang in the back and chat. That's cool-- glad they find friendships there, but I came to work out-- that's the experience I paid for. When it became clear that things were more geared towards social time and less about working out (meaning I wasn't getting much in the way of a challenge) I decided I'd do my aerobics alone, and get what I needed.  I've been happier since. Give it some thought.

Because a gym is a new environment for me, I didn't anticipate this. This is probably one of the few ways you and I are alike (I heard you gasp, ssshhh!).  I am very business-minded--there to get my 'workout on".  I do socialize some...on weekends, but this group issue just brought this to the surface.  I am there to make my life change and that's my priority....

I will find peace soon, I'm sure, but I would like for it to be having peace and training with Ian, and that's it.   Regarding "you can decide the experience...and make it happen", I agree--but that doesn't mean one can flip a switch and make things perfect.  This, without a doubt, was hard to maneuver through.

My feelings about you were never personal, you know. You kind of came in here with a lot of moxie-- which is a good thing-- but you quickly stepped on a lot of people's toes who had been at this losing business longer than you had, and since I count many of them amongst my friends, I was taking up for them. Remember the "You can eat anything you want, just exercise?" mantra you came in with? And now, who's high-proteining things?   My point was, and still is-- there are as many "right ways" to go about weight loss as there are people, and you have to find what works for you...and be open to new ideas and change what's not working. So you hang back, evaluate, watch and support-- which you've gotten better with over time-- kudos on that. Do I think everyone here is going about this right? Hell To Tha No...and clearly they think the same of me, since I mangled my guts and they have opted not to. But I can appreciate my kind of "Nose to the grindstone, live free or die but i am having an effing truffle on my birthday" intensity is not for everyone, just as Neece's " I'm livid about these last 20 pounds but I do like me a good mixed drink from time  to time" philosophy isn't -- we're individuals, with individual needs.  Just make sure you are surrounded by people who have a chance of helping you meet yours.

"Remember the "You can eat anything you want, just exercise?" mantra you came in with? And now, who's high-proteining things?" Actually, that wasn't my position, nor am I high proteining it now. When I signed on my position was eating more and exercise at a high intensity and low carb and it will work for the obese because of insulin issues. Hmmm, my position hasn't changed! LO, not one bit.  Only difference is I had to go even lower carb (which is not high protein at all, it's high fat) to move the scale faster. Just had to clarify, because well that's me ; )  I don't like to be misread.

Gotcha.  My point was you made a dietary change, I didn't know the details--- on the heels of telling people, "No dietary changes! Eat all you want, just exercise like *I* do!" The change you made was not unlike the one I and many other people here have made-- each for our own reasons. Just trying to see if you've developed a little more empathy for your fellow boardees.
