Atkins Day 1 - So far..so good...?
Breakfast: 1 egg pattie, 1 sausage pattie
Lunch: Salad consisting of: 1 pack herb & garlic tuna, 1-2 cups crisp lettuce (no iceburg), about 1/4 cup of Hidden Valley spicy ranch dressing, <1oz grated parmesan cheese, real bacon bits. Also had 1 snack slice of mild cheddar because I didn't really feel sated. Perhaps I ate too fast.
Snack: 5 deli slices pepperoni, 2 slices provolone cheese
Dinner: 4-5oz herb & garlic pork tenderloin, 1 cup asparagus/zucchini/portabella mushrooms sauteed in REAL BUTTER seasoned with garlic, rosemary, parsley, salt and pepper.
Snack: 4 pepperoni slices cold, 3 pieces of mild cheddar.
I felt satisfied through breakfast and lunch and didn't start getting hungry till about 5ish. I got home about 6pm and ate the snack and then headed off to Karate. Dinner was very satisfying and I wasn't hungry when I ate the after dinner snack. I went into the kitchen to put the rest of the food up so I could take it for lunch tomorrow. All of a sudden I started craving sweets. This always happens to me this time of night. I grabbed the cold pepperoni and cheese and low and behold the craving disappeared and I felt sated the rest of the night.
One thing I've noticed though is around 9pm I started getting a headache. It's not severe but there's this slight dull throbbing sensation in my forehead..more so on the upper left side. I'm wondering if this is withdrawal symptoms. Seems a bit early on to be having some sort of withdrawal. Of course various things started running through my head... Could I have eaten too much fat and my blood is coagulating? lmao.. Nahh... I also didn't get much sleep last night. The time change always affects me in the spring. Perhaps that could be part of the headache. My water intake was low today at about 60-65 ounces. I'll try to up it tomorrow.
Still a little perplexed about that headache though. Oh well..it's not terribly painful and if it gets that way there is always tylenol. I don't know if I will continue to post how my days go because you know me and routine..but for now it just seems like a cool thing to do. :) enjoy! lmao
The headache is common, though I didn't get it. It will pass. May take the Induction period to sorta detox your body.
One thing--you didn't eat enough or drink enough water and you had minimal added fats it seems. Don't shy from them.
Track your food in fitday and you'll see that 20g of carbs should equal at least 2000 calories and 65-70% fat, 20-25% protein and 5-10% carbs.
Advice, keep hardboiled eggs in the fridge as a quick grab. Don't rely heavily on pepperoni (salt), keep the cheese to 3oz/day. Careful with sausage patties as they most often have sugar.
Try upping your protein a bit to be more satisfied. Instead of 3oz tuna, enjoy 6 or more. Instead of 1 egg at breakfast, go for 3.
Never feel hunger. Prevent that (log on fire theory). Eat 6 meals a day.
I didn't eat enough?? G'lord I felt like I ate a tremendous amount!? I dunno about the whole tracking food thang. I hate that crap. Whenever I track.. I quit.. I will track every now and again to find out kinda where I am.
I figure it will take me a while to figure out good snack foods. In the meantime the pepperoni and cheese are holding me over. I'm sure I'll grow quite tired of it soon. :P Hardboiled eggs is a great idea though it'll be difficult not to dash them with salt.
Excuse me while I try to recondition my brain that eating is good for me and that I shouldn't feel hunger. :D
Headache is normal.. you're detoxing from carbs.. It took Jon about 5 days to get over it.. took me about 3.
Watch those packaged pork tenderloins.. watch the carb content. Also, pork tenderloin may not have enough of fat ... I do them VERY rarely and it's better to get 'em plain and spice 'em up yourself.
Again.. don't worry about the headache.. it'll be gone before you know it. Pick up some ketone test strips so you can see where ya are in a couple of days.

I figured that headache was the detox...but so early? Hell it was just the first day? I never remember having them before. Probably means I was getting carbs. Could also be because I had a carb/sugar fest on Sunday.. :P
I haven't gotten my meal planned for tonight yet but I am thinking about something to do with chicken. Jerz gave me a recipe site yesterday that was absolutely fantastic! I need to go and buy more meats and learn new indecencies with eggs. I probably had about 5 ounces of cheese yesterday so I'll have to learn how to not rely on it. This whole thing is a learning process. :) Hell it was easier before when I just said..."Mmmm Meat.." lol
It'll happen when it happens with the detox. Jon was a pumpkin pie, cookie, cake junkie.. so his was pretty rough. I was already off many starches .. so mine was easier and went more quickly.
For the first two weeks, your body is going to tell you when enough is enough with the food. The bottom line is that if you are hungry.. EAT.. don't hold off. Eat something allowed. Pay attention to induction.
Yea... it IS a learning experience. Keep your book handy. Also, try lo carb forums. These people are a wealth of information.
This time of year - headache could certainly be allergies! I would not freak on it just yet. I'm not even sure you are having withdrawals...your diet of late is not that bad.
Salads are irritating in general...well this is just me, but I swear they make me hungrier. Maybe try a hot veggie or some broth to sip?
Maybe take an omelet to warm up later, too as needed.
Aren't there some atkins induction style desserts to snarf after supper?????
