What people will do to get their starches in.

Think I mentioned yesterday that I was making fajitas without the tortilla shells for dinner last night.  I thought....well, I want everyone to try to eat Core with me since I'm cooking, but I know they need something besides meat and veggies.  So I made a bulgar spanish type of dish to serve along with it.

While I was cooking it, I said out loud to my husband, "I hope you like this, cause I really have my doubts you will".  He got mad at me and told me to stop analyzing him before he even eats a bite, he might absolutely love it.  I said fine, I sure hope so!

Now, I'm sort of proud that it's been three weeks and everyone (but my husband) has noticed what I've been doing with our dinners.  Although the teenagers hardly eat at home anymore, at least the others haven't complained!  So we sat down for dinner and I yelled at my oldest son to come eat with us, he was the only kid home.

While we were eating I looked over at my husbands plate and then at my sons.  My husband didn't get the bulgar and neither did my son.  My husband had crackers on his plate instead, and my son put the fajitas mixture in between two pieces of bread!  Of course I started complaining and my husband told me he didn't even see it.  Hellooo????  We just talked about it, and it was sitting right next to the fajitas.  He said he would try it so he went over there and took a bite.  I could tell that he didn't like it (I was right, proved my point), and said mmm, that is actually really good.  Think I'll take some to work with me tomorrow.hahaha

He's such a liar.ha ha  While my son just looked at us and said..." I thought this is what we were suppose to do".  Lol, this family is soooo not into this.

I've actually gotten pretty lucky with my kids but then again they are girls. Yesterday my 15yr old made us salad, gilled chicken strips and apple and orange slices for lunch. Then last night my 18yr old made shrimp stir fry and cottage cheese. Good healthy meals and they measured everything out and the whole bit. Meantime, hubby is a horse of a different color and just can't seem to wrap his head around it all. He made breakfast...thick pancakes and syrup w/ fried eggs. Today he made pancakes, hashbrowns and fried eggs. He acts offended when I tell him no thanks but I just can't bring myself to eat pancakes and hashbrowns. He works evenings and we always save him a plate from supper. Well, he eats it all but he always finds something else to eat, too. I have serious doubts about him ever learning what a portion size is. I guess you really can lead a horse to water but you definitely can't make him drink.  Holly, just keep doing what you're doing. They'll either jump on board or they won't but don't let them side line you in the process. You're doing wonderfully. Keep it up! Beth

Seeing them eat other things doesn't really bother me much.  But I do like them to at least try it.  But I just thought it's was sort of funny, especially my husband.  He hated it, but his heart is there so he tried so hard.  So I got a big kick out of this.  We joke consistently together, he's my best friend!  I got a little perturbed, but once I saw him about gag on it and lie to me just to make me happy so I'll stay determined with this way of eating is all I needed.  I found it quite amusing what these guys will do just to have some kind of starch with their dinner.  I mean, who eats crackers with fajitas?? lol

It's a long slowwww journey! My DH cannot understand why I want to eat veggies with no fat on them...he is forever sneaking some on ours! He does not "see" the fat in our meats, pastas, etc.  I remember when my kids were little and I was switching over to non fat milk.  They cried and called it blue milk! Always it was a fight to not buy crappy cereals...they wanted Lucky Charms.  LUCKY CHARMS?????

They did not get it til they started getting fat after they moved out and ate themselves sick on Lucky Charms!

Sometimes I get the guilts about not giving my kids enough carbs with their main meal... so I make some rice or pasta.  Usually (because now they are used to carb free meals) they find it fills them up too much!  So I end up having to freeze all the extras.

My teens are both within the average BMI- DS16 is 18.5 BMI, DD15 is 19 BMI,  It's only my DD10 who is the skinny one... she's 12.5BMI- yet eats like a horse. (Half her luck, she's always been built like that.)
