Fire, but we're okay!

At 6:20 this AM, I was brushing my teeth when I smelled a "hot" smell, like a curling iron-- but I don't have one. I noticed it started to get a little smoky...and called 911 just as my smoke alarms went off.

It took me 3 minutes to get out-- I had no undies or socks on, grabbed ID and Kitty (who was running around like crazy! Grr!) and ran like hell. You always wonder what you will take-- I grabbed my cat, my passport, my address book, and my vitamins...I am a GOOD RNYer.

It turns out the next door neighbor's new wide screen TV was wired badly and caught fire. It literally gutted the place, but the fire damage was contained-- except for the smoke, which I am trying to blow out now. It figures this'd happen a week after I start an online clothing vintage clothing business, right?

I can't complain. We're safe. Cold but safe-- the windows and doors are all open and fans blowing and it's 29 degrees today. Oh well, I'll get my fluids in-- constant tea going!

I have the day off now to clean and wash my clothes. And wait for my heart to stop pounding out of my chest. Oh, and I updated my renter's insurance-- if you are a renter, do it today!

omg!  you did exceptionally well with your choices on what to grab! It makes me stop and think what i would try for.  I sleep nekkid, and once in a while that thought occurs to me on leaving in a hurry.  In hotels, i make myself wear at least a teddy and panties. Related, i got an e-mail with kind of a good idea I thought for ladies who live alone.  Keep your car keys with the alarm on it by your bed side. If you heard weird noises, you could cue the car alarm to go off and scare an intruder! Excitement nobody needs! Glad you got out okay. Wonder if your call was the first alert?

You know....I wonder what I would grab.  My cat, My purse (since it has all my info in it.), and if I had time....my softball scrapbook, I couldn't live knowing all of that burned.  Glad you're safe!

After reading .. I thought about the same thing.. what would I grab....   I keep everything important in a fire safe that has a handle .. papers and emergency funds and jewelry.... but the first thing that came to mind was my daughter, Loki and at LEAST the Martin D16.. or maybe the Yaire.   I sleep in bike shorts and a tank.. so I'd be covered.. and my daughter always wears pj's. Thanks Shari... wake up call for those of us who are NOT prepared!

OMG!  Thank God you're safe.. thank GOD you were awake and aware of what was going on around you! Fugget the undies.. they just weigh ya down anyway!  As a cat lover, I would say I'd grab all 30 lbs of Loki and do the same. Can you stay somewhere else tonight?  Give the place a chance to air out while avoiding possibly compromising your health?

Thank god it wasn't from your apartment.  Lord... And you're a good mommy for grabbing the kitty cat. :)

Glad to see your okay.  Wow, you had a scare!  My sister just had a fire also, sort of similar to yours on Friday.  I've been thinking of investing into one of those little fire box's like LVS mentioned.  It's a shame we all don't have one, there really not that expensive, I priced a couple a few weeks ago.  

Oooh vintage clothing, I like!  I have this "thing" for antiques.  Guess you might want to call it a hobby, every year I make it a point to buy myself at least one nice piece.  Clothing, heck I would wear that everyday!  My husband laughs at me, I will watch an 1800's movie and couldn't tell you what the plot was half the time, but I could tell you what their door handles look like, curtains, etc.hehe  LOVE IT!!
