What's the deal, I was doing so good

A month ago I started this by weaning myself off of bad carbs and responded nicely with some weight loss.  THEN after a week let go of all bad carbs and started walking a mile a day.  The third week I seen a drop of about 15 pounds total.  My clothes were getting baggy, I was so excited.  Now, even with my attempts I see the numbers rising again.  In the last 2 days I've increase by 5 pounds.  I have eaten a little extra, but only my diet food, and no bad carbs.  I missed a day of walking because of rain.  But everything I've done should not cost me 5 pounds.  I just don't get it.  And today I am soooooo hungry and I already got past that.  How will I ever be able to live a normal life if I gain weight eating a few extra bites of carrots?  I really don't want to be fat any more  .  I've never weighed less than 200 pounds and I want to see what it feels like before I die.  I am totally feeling sorry for myself today.  I really wanted to do this without having surgery.

Gurl, that is depressing! I would try a bariatric doctor. Do you have one in town???? You mayhave to try cutting out all grains for a while. wow, just hang in and don't go backwards.  Bodies can be sooo stubborn.  ((((bek))))))

How many cal a day are you eating? I've been tracking my weight loss for about 6 weeks now & there is definately fluctuations....once was even 8 lbs...don't know what, I didn't do anything different.  Just keep doing what you are doing & you might try to increase your exercise.  If it is too hard to walk because of the weight on your knees, then you might pick up a used stationary bike.  Imho, walking a mile a day is not going to do the job.

Also, your scale could be off or it might be near your tom.

okay let's reality check. you know there is no way you gained 5 lbs in two days. weight fluctuates tremendously from day to day, especially for women. you have to understand these fluctuations and incorporate them into how you're interpreting the numbers and if the numbers are still so powerful, then it might be a good idea not to be weighing yourself everyday.

You really just have to keep up with what you're doing. you didn't gain your weight in a month, therefore you're not going to lose it in a month. you should be aiming for 2 lbs per week. if you lost 15 in 3 weeks, that's huge. but a lot of that might be water and therefore can easily be gained back based on what you ate that day, time of month etc. pick yourself up from the shame spiral and keep working it at. its not easy, but its definitely possible. are you working with a nutritionist on this eating plan? of not, i would highly recommend you get a personalized plan to follow that is specific to your issues, is maintainable and perhaps not so extreme. i'd also encourage you to monitor your food intake - so measuring everything and writing it all down so you can really see what you're eating -  to say you had 3 oz more turkey rather than "a little extra" turkey. hang in there. you can do it.

Yes.. you WILL gain weight with carrots!  YOU IDENTIFIED this!!  HOORAY!!!  That's classic for someone who's insulin resistent.  I can't go NEAR a carrot of any kind!  Go back to what you were doing and don't worry about those 5 lbs.. it's just fluid filling in as your body is adjusting to the new weight.  This is very common in low carb diets.  I lost 15 in the first two weeks, then put on 5 the third week.  This was back in October and NOW I have to HOLD UP the shorts that were way too tight on me then.. it does work.  Increase your water intake too if you can.  I know it's not the greatest thing but essential for steady weight loss, healthy skin and of course for your kidneys to work without help from those other organs which are busy working on your weight loss.  You don't want the liver to have to drop everything it's doing to run over and help the kidneys.  That's the way it was explained to me.. and I do see a diffference. I understand your frustration, and I definitely empathize with you..  I'm just hoping you'll take what you just learned about yourself and use it to your advantage.  Bye Bye starchy veggies.. bye bye sweet veggies... there's a giant list of veggies in the Atkins book which are acceptable.. and low carb websites which will help. I think neecee mentioned the grains.  Yanno... diabetics and insulin resistent people really gotta stay off of that stuff until their weight is under control.  At that point you add it in a little at a time to see what you react to.  Don't worry, your liver will turn protein to glucose for energy...  and the increased fats will burn first. I know how you feel... I don't want to be fat anymore either, and I haven't been under 200 lbs for .. hmm. seems like forever.  I've NEVER learned so much about myself as I have while dumping these last (let's see.. as of this afternoon I dumped another 2 lbs of fluid which brings me to 228)  82 pounds!!  I am the WEAKEST most OBSESSIVE and ADDICTIVE person I know.. and I lost 82 lbs in the last 6 months.  If I can.. YOU can!! :)  I think you learned something which will prove very valuable going forward... just remember.. YOU ARE GOING FORWARD AT ALL TIMES!  If it's not pounds, it's gonna be inches.. YOU CAN DO THIS!!!! Go with God!! Lori

Oh, dear, you did it again.  Your a godsend.  It may well be the carrots.  I never thought of them as a problem.  I've been snacking on them as if they were free food.  I'm learning so much.  All of my life all I ever heard was don't eat the meat, don't eat the fat, eat your fruit and vegies and it's so hard for me to fill up on meat.  I DO FEEL BETTER THAN I DID 4 WEEKS AGO.  Regardless of what the scales say.  I'm finding out I have a lot worse habits than just food.  Like my belief in food.  I see my MD in 10 days and her and I are going to have a long talk about all of this.  I got the Adkins and south beach books off of eBay and I'm hoping I can use them.  Thank you for reminding me about the whole insulin resisents.  We really cannot eat like others. Thanks for making me feel better!

That is discouraging. There's alot of good advice in the previous posts. You are doing really well!!  I've been over 275 for at least 3 years, and for the last 2, 310 walking a mile!! Awesome! I can't even walk my girls to school.  Think of it this way, I admire you, and consider you a role model! Keep up the good work!!!

You're right, It is a major deal that I can walk a mile now.  I really felt defeated when I was told earlier that a mile isn't enough but a month ago I had trouble making a trip around the inside of the grocery store.  A MILE IS A BIG DEAL.  Wow!  I can walk a whole mile.  I feel sooooo much better that you pointed that out.  Not only do I walk a mile, but I'm POWER WALKING that mile!  I had to start with baby steps.  I mapped out my yard in 1/3 mile laps.  I walked it first once a day, then twice a day then twice at once and now I can walk it three times all at once!  I can't believe I was beating myself up this morning.  I really have made a lot of the goals I set for myself.  In one month I lost 10 pounds and I can walk a mile!  I my clothes are loose on me!

HELLO!  NOW you get it!   You KIDDIN'.. you think I was doing 10 miles on the bike!!  LOL.   I  was doin' maybe 5 minutes at a time and then completely crash... I couldn't breathe, my heartrate was phenomenal... I would try to stand and feel like someone kicked me in the gut and knocked the wind out of me.  Who would have thought that so many months later I'd do cardio for ...  a WHOLE HOUR!  I do 30 minutes first.. then an hour of weights.. then finish up back on the treadmill for another 30 - 45 after.. I would have NEVER believed I could walk through a store without holding onto a cart, or jog down the steps from my deck, or cut and stack firewood..   take the trash bin down the 500' driveway and actually make it back alive!   Six months ago I could BARELY walk down the hall to my BATHROOM!   Oh grasshopper.. me must first learn to crawl before we walk, and walk before we run!!!!! You are POWERWALKING... OMG.. that's GREAT....  increase it over time.. or better yet.. mix it up... find something else that stokes your fire and ADD it.  I play the WII sports while I'm on the bike.. lol.. Ok.. it's not the best thing in the world, but moving the arms WITH the legs is fantastic.  As your energy level increases, you'll be itchin' to do more.. just be careful not to overdo!! ;) In one month you've accomplished more than maybe we couldn't accomplish in a year before.. I love it... This is the only time in my life where LOSING means WINNING!  LOL  God Bless! Lori
