An observation..

I've been really paying attention to what causes gas for me.  I've had gas on a daily basis for as long as I can remember. I'm not talking about some mild case of gas. I deal with hours and hours of bloating, smelly gas and often frequent BMs.  Perhaps you could call it IBS?  Well here lately I've been really paying attention to what causes it.  It seems to be related to the amount and what type of carbs that I take in.  I've found that when I eat more natural and complex carbs like fruit, veggies and whole grains my gas is very mild but does exist.  However, when I eat pasta, chips, some rices and really high sugar things I have uncontrollable gas and often diarrhea. Pasta seems to be the worse.. That doesn't matter if it's white pasta, egg pasta or rice pasta. Wheat pasta seems to be okay though.  Probably TMI but this is really important to me.  I'm known to be VERY smelly. I'm the first one people turn to when something smells! There's no need in fanning the covers with me because they can't hold it in!  While I am a guy and don't mind the smell so much it is not very polite.  My wife is such a good sport about it all but I sure would like to spare her the pleasure.  I suspect the best thing to do here is to lower my carb intake and cut out all the simple carbs.  However, I still have on more thing to figure out.  Do the foods that cause my issues contain gluten?  If so, does that mean I am allergic to gluten? Or is it just simple carbs in general that cause the issue.  Keep digging Watson! This is more or less just an observation. One more step further on my path to enlightenment. So does anyone else experience these issues...and actually care to admit it?   Anyone have any knowledge about gluten or other substances that might cause food allergies such as gas and bloating?

LOL omg are we bored tonight?  Thanks for the little laugh before going to bed.  My dh was even over here reading what I was giggling about.  Oh I'm sure it's not a funny matter to you, but when you come on here expecting something serious, it sort of breaks the straight face.  Thanks, I think we needed a change of pace here! :)  hehe

On the other note, maybe you should wiki it!  There's got to be a reason for it.

Acckk, dh just said he read 90 miles per hour gust wind alert close to my house between now and morning.  Lol, children are going to be flying at the bus stop!  Should be interesting.

Heheh!  I used to get a kick out of it and sometimes still do.   What man doesn't like to fart yanno?  After a while though..it loses it's affect.  Plus mine are sooooo smelly they could be used as a torture method! People ask me if I'm afraid of the gas and bowel movements that could possibly happen with the DS.  I just smile and say, "Nope!".. :)

my husband thinks I am a machine.  He never ever heard his first wife fart ever...I think it is unnatural to hold them in.

My guts are really easily upset! But, he is still the king when it come to the funk factor - the goddam paint peels off the walls.

LOL! I have determined that eating a large amount of grains, rice, pasta, bread causes my guts to act exactly like that. Most over the counter pasta is wheat, btw, egg noodles only mean eggs are also in them - usually yokes only. I noticed that when I ate a lot less of grains, my guts behave normally. I'm talking like really half the size of my fist as a portion - compared to how I used to eat - like 3 fistfuls, that is not much, but that much works. It's my understanding that it is because of insoluble fiber - differing from the soluble fiber that fruits/veggies have. Insolubles are what your colonoscopy doc will preach about - s/he will want you to eat more of them! Yes, you too will eventually have one of those! I think that gluten sensitive peeps have extreme issues in this way - bad pains, illness. However, why don't you try to eat zero wheat and see if anything changes for you.  There is a ton of gluten free products out there!

Hi Chris - I am taking  your post seriously because I have the identical problem.  The kind of gas you are referring to is also very painful for me.  I have found that I can only eat rice or corn cereal, no wheat.  Pasta is an occasional treat due to the pain it causes as are cookies, cakes, etc.  I have thought about a gluten free diet and will probably start one soon.

Welp for lunch I had the same thing I had for dinner last night which consisted of rice noodles (thai style) in a garlic sauce with chicken and steamed veggies (snap peas, carrots, water chesnuts and broccoli.) I believe it was the noodles that gave me the bout of gas last night. We'll see how my body reacts today.
