Ways to battle hunger

I bought the K2o water for those times hubby and I get hungry.  He uses it at least twice a day and says it really helps.  I can't believe I haven't tried it yet for myself.  I hope to do it when I get over this URI that the doctor has been treating me for since the end of January. Thanks to some of you giving me advice about protein bars, I have cut back on those for myself and I have found more with lower carbohydrate levels. I bought the Doctors CarbRite Diet bars online.  My husband likes the SlimFast high protein bars that say they keep hunger away for 4 hours. Have some of you found products that are good for snacks that are low in carbohydrates?  I am still searching for more ideas.

The things that keep my hunger pains at bay are plenty of water (our bodies sometimes mistake thirst for hunger) and a good filling breakfast- oatmeal is #1 as it lasts ages, just don't lather it in suagr.  Another tip I picked up is not to deny yourself dairy.  There was a study that found that people who ate dairy lost more weight than those who didn't- but keep it low fat and watch out for hidden sugar in things like yoghurts.  When absolutely desperate to nibble a banana smoothie every now and then can be really filling too or I sometimes indulge and have a slice of raisin toast (light butter or even better no butter) with a cuppa.

Vegetable based soups can be a saviour- boil carrots, onion, peppers, chilli and zucchini in a low fat vegetable stock (blend if you like a smooth texture) is most satisfying and nutritious hunger buster too.

Em gave good advice - the dairy thing is gaining even more momentum.  My body responds badly to most yogurts, so I rarely eat them - for some reason they aggravate my hunger; if I mix in some soy protein and berries, it is better. But cottage cheese, hard cheeses, nf milk really helps me feel satisfied. Dairy has milk sugars, which shows as hi sugar carbs, but the news is that our bodies asimilate nearly 100% of the calcium and other nutrients because it is an animal source, chemically the same as we are! Veggies, too.  Hot and often with most meals really help me. PB with celery is awesome too. As for lean protein supplements, I love my bariatric drinks like hi prot hot chocolate - one can take regluar low carb choco powder, stir it with cold water, then into coffee or ho****er and enjoy.

Just my 2 cents worth but if you're trying to battle hunger then you should drop the K20 Water and replace it with..water.   You're taking in 50 calories and 13 grams of carbs! Luckily they put  5 grams of dietary fiber in there so you get 8 grams of net carbs. 6 grams of those net carbs are from the sugar they put in the drink. The other 2 remaining grams are probably from the milk ingredients they've added. There's 5 grams of protein in here. Protein helps to balance out your blood sugar when you dose it up with the carbs but I think the ratio is off in this drink. The point is, if you're drinking these to curb hunger, they are in fact doing the opposite. I'm sure after drinking one you feel a small sense of hunger relief because you've put something on your stomach. But why not eat a slice of lean turkey meat?? Heck, you can eat 6 thin slices of it for 80 - 100 calories and 8-10 grams of protein. (I recommend finding the low sodium kind but you get the point.) The fat from the turkey will definitely help with the hunger.  Then, you're eating when you're hungry and getting your calories from food.  My nutritionist said to me, "Why would you want to get your calories from your drinks?? Beverages are supposed to hydrate your body, not fuel it."  Made sense to me.... She recommended the protein bars for those times when you need a snack but I have yet to find any bars that aren't loaded with carbs and sugar. A hard boiled egg or a 1/2 a tuna sandwich sounds like an excellent snack during this time to me. I think we sometimes get hung up on eating when we're hungry. If you know you're hungry then you should eat something. That mechanism is there for a reason. We sometimes feel like we're bad for feeling hungry so we are reluctant to eat so we resort to drinking to help curb the appetite. And that's fine because sometimes you are thirsty and not hungry but it's best to just drink water to see if that's what it is. If you're still hungry then grab something light to eat.  Nutrition Facts for K20:

Thanks for posting that, Kriz.  I saw those advertised and was curious about the profile. Wonder how much they cost? Confusing about the sugars, isn't it? It says less than 2% of the poldextrose and whey isolate, 6g seems like a lot of grammage to represent under 2%???? The bariatric fruity drinks I get are 80 cals, almost no carbs, 15g protein, run about $2 each. I mix them up with ice tea.

I bought the packets that can be added to water bottles or to a glass of water.  I think they are probably half the amount that is in the bottled K2o.

If I'm actually hungry...an ounce of macadamias or a few black olives does it for me.
