As I've mentioned before- my Dr has been out of town for a year. He took care of all my scripts in Dec of 2006- just before he went for a year to practice in South Africa. He got back early last month, but I haven't had the chance to get in to see him. I still had a few weeks pills left on my BP meds and by the time I realized I needed to call in for a refill- it was beyond Dec., so I needed a new scrip written.  I was curious if my WL had helped any in the BP area... so I stopped in at the public health center and had it checked today.   It was  194/102    Five minutes later- it went down a LITTLE and it was 184/96 So, I have a 3 month supply of meds being shipped out of Juneau on Monday. At least I will have them in time for our trip to Disney... just maybe....  I won't have a stroke on the rides now?!  I'm bummed. I was so in hopes this would come DOWN. My mom didn't have BP issues (course she was dead at 57 so she may have had it later in life?) My dad had BP meds but I think he was in his 60's when it was prescribed. Both bros have it but they are over weight and i was just REALLY HOPING this WL and all would help  Done with my pity party... just felt the need to whine a little

Awww girl... it'll get better.  Focus on your weight loss and your blood pressure will follow it down.

Thanks guys... I'm determined to keep trying. When I first went on the meds- I was in to see a different Dr. and I was really sick. (I had pneumonia) This guy put me on the BP meds. LATER, my own Dr. saw me and he said he really wasn't that sure I needed them cause I was borderline high. I'm only on 5 mg a day (Avapro). So I was REALLY REALLY hoping this WL would have a more positive effect on the BP :(    The nurse told me that she faxed in the script and I jokingly said "I can go on the rides at Disneyland and NOT have to WORRY about a STROKE then RIGHT?" She laughed and said: "YES... HAVE FUN- that's what it's all about!" ONWARD and upward. Is that how it goes?  For me I guess it should be ONWARD and DOWNWARD.

I think you are justified in your concerns.  If my doc blew a hissy fit about 160/83 then maybe your bp needs a closer look.  I am not trying to alarm you...but you maybe the meds aren't adequate?   I do not know how much weight has to do with it (I've gotta research that).  At 310 lbs I was consistently 120/80.  85 lbs down I was 160/83....  what about stress factors?

Wow...that's high for being on medication.  Can you stop there every now and then and get it checked again?  Maybe you were just stressed out or anxious about having it taken?  If it is consistently that high, you need to have your medication changed, IMO.  Not good to have it run that high all the time.  These days they like to keep it under 130/80 or thereabouts.  Do you tend to eat a lot of salty things?  Don't mean to alarm you, but I would keep an eye on it.  Might be worthwhile to make a f/u with your MD to have it checked out.  Hope it was just a fluke.

Oh no.... I need to clarify!  I was OFF the meds for well over a month- closer to two months really. So as I began the meds again... which was today- cause I looked and had 5 left :)  I'll likely not get my new script until like Tuesday- since it's a holiday... but hopefully I'll have enough to take me to when they get here. I am just really disappointed cause I was hoping it had  come down a LITTLE bit.... apparently NOT though :( In 12/06, it was 158/92... ON meds. But, I was in the midst of a panic attack- so it was expected. He wants to see me soon after we return to be sure it's going okay.

Oh, okay....that makes me feel better!  I was worried about you!!  When do you go to Disney?  Sounds like fun.  I'd love to be able to go with my grandchildren some day.

Ahhh... thank you!

We are leaving for Disney two weeks from TODAY :) March first! I am so excited!  This will be our first vacation since 1993 when we took our older 3 kiddo's to upper MI to visit their gmpa... they are all grown up now and we have only a 6 & 13 y/o left at home...
it is now THEIR turn to go! (our 20 y/o has also bought a ticket to go with us:) It should be great fun!!!

me too!  I join you in this here whine! My bordeline bp is not any better even though I lost 40#.  A bad read for me is 140/86 - which even on meds it will spike to.  Most of the time on meds it is 120/72-76 ish. Once in a blue moon does the top # go to 110, not often. Bummer....my pcp says not too be too bummed - in my case it was hereditary.  My dad was on meds in his 20's! Not borderline either - his was off the charts.

Don't feel so bummed girl, with your family history, especially the two brothers, it sounds totally hereditary.  But what bothers me is the fact that hereditary hypertension needs to be monitored, and your doc left you with a script for a whole year.  What if that needed adjusting?  And the fact that you were off of it for a period is probably why it was so high.  Did your doc tell you that it was OK?  I've never had BP problems, but my DH does, and his doc watches it like a hawk. This is what cracks me up about what you said about your brothers...but they are both overweight.  Just sounds funny coming from their sister who calls herself 'ChunkyMama'!  Maybe you need to rethink your nickname.  I vote for 'OneHotMama'!!!
