It does NOT help with hunger.  Here is a run down that I got on it's site.

What are treatment effects?

alli™ works by preventing the absorption of some of the fat you eat. The fat passes out of your body, so you may have bowel changes, known as treatment effects. You may get:

  • gas with oily spotting
  • loose stools
  • more frequent stools that may be hard to control

What to expect

The excess fat that passes out of your body is not harmful. In fact, you may recognize it as something that looks like the oil on top of a pizza. Eating a low-fat diet lowers the chance of these bowel changes. Limit fat intake in your meals to an average of 15 grams.

With that said, I think it might be risky if you have IBS.  But then again, I'm no doctor! :)  I think I would call him up if you want to take this.  I personally wouldn't try it if I was you without finding out for sure.

I've never taken it. I do have IBS and I have two bottles of Xenical (Alli in prescription form) that my sis gave me and have never gotten brave enough to use. If you have more diarrhea than constipation with your IBS, I would think that the Alli would just add to the looseness and eventually irritate that area quite a bit. I would either ask your doc or give it a try and see what happens.  As far as hunger control goes, it is not intended to control hunger. It is intended to control fat absorbtion from the foods that you eat. The more fat you eat, the looser your stools and the more chance of "leakage".  I have to say if you are unsure call your dr's office and ask. Beth
