I've been up since 4 a.m. and I am so happy about something that I have to share with someone :) I'm sorry this is long and so unrelated.... it's one of those WHO CARES posts... but I am BURSTING inside :) I know I've never shared this sort of thing- but we live in a very small commercial fishing community up here in AK. I was born into a fishing family- DH was in fishing for 28 years. We've been together (on & off the first 2 years) for 27. Fishing/the water etc., has been our life as well as our children's lives. For our main income over the years- he fished on another guys boat. We have been very close to this fella... the skipper and crew had a bond we never thought would end. They shared a hellish experience in 94 when all 5 nearly lost their lives as the boat went down in bad weather. They spent over an hour in icey water (Feb-cold!) and were barely able to be saved etc. Well, over the past 10 years- the skipper has changed so much :(  He is racist for one... that doesn't go over well with us- at all (it's NOT acceptable to us! As well as- our youngest dd is AA)  And, he has gotten into oxycotton and vicadin!  He has (legally- but without a word to the crew) sold IFQ's... which cut our income down to 1/3 what we were use to. Without warning- AT ALL. His life has been a life of LIES and worming people.  Dh went to a town job 3 years ago- one that gives us insurance and he makes more than he would on the boat. It was a no brainer- he had to move on. Our oldest ds was also on the boat but only for one fishery. He is the most experienced guy that is left on there. Over the years this guy has stolen money from our settlements- the money just disappears! Like it was never made- yet the guys KNOW what is made by poundage. His mood has also gone CRAZY! He is savage at times! Well, now that Ds is the one left there... HE gets the brunt of his moods. They ALL get stolen from- but Ds knows because he is experienced. For instance- he was expecting 8-10k in his last check... he got 4k. He tried talking to the guy- he was hung-up on. So dh left a message (he rarely takes calls) asking a few questions- he got a NASTY reply :( We've had TWO links to this carachtor  the past 3 years. Dh still did a short fishery with him- because we had a permit/boat to pay off. AND, our ds was still on the guys boat- which scared the h#@$ out of me! The GOOD NEWS IS..... DS has been working a town job making $15 an hour for months now... and he is NOT going back!!  AND..... we took one permit we own... and we have a BUYER! Papers will be signed TOMORROW.  This will TERMINATE any and ALL relationship with this fella. We can PAY OFF the boat/permit loans we have had to pay 8-10k on every year for the past 10!  We will ALL be out from under this guy. DONE... END OF CHAPTER!  We will sink any remaining into our bills which accumulated when we had two very sick little boys from 95-97. This will lesson our stess TREMENDOUSLY!!!!   I am SOOOOO Relieved! If you've read this far... WOW! I'm impressed LOL  I just HAD to share with someone! Oh! Also.... we pulled a "Willie" and we didn't mention to the skipper that we are DONE. Kinda like HE has done so many times over the years.   We are just *DONE*. END of story! Gotta get my kids to school- roads are a sheet of ICE today!

Wow...you're losing weight on all fronts....big weight off your mind to be done with that character.  Just goes to prove that the nice guys DON'T finish last.  Glad you are out from under all that stress.

That situation sounded volatile! I am glad your DH broke away. Such evil sometimes!

OMG... that many of you read it!? LOL   Looking at others troubles on here tonight... my drama is MUCH easier to handle I think! Sorry Chris for hangin you up on the "fishing lingo" LOL   I'm assuming it was the "IFQ"s which stands for "Individual Fishing Quota"... every permit owner can buy IFQ's... that dictates how much (in pounds) one is allotted to fish each season.   ............... a "settlement" is just the proceeds after being "settled"... I.e., your paycheck for the season :) Thanks for your thoughts and support everyone. I know it's the BEST thing we could do- all the way around. We are still going to be in debt with the CC bills- but nothing like we were looking at pryor to the sale.  This is a win-win situation! Ha! A funny addition to the whole thing! The skipper was out at dh's work- picking up a NEW TRUCK today... and he told dh not to worry about ds... he is a good kid and he still has his job this summer :)  He thinks that spot is to DIE FOR! ha ha... NOT!  He has NO CLUE Rob is NOT going back!!
