Oooh that sounds like a great book!  I think I'll have to order me a copy!  But I can't order it until I finish the Atkins. If I get too many books I won't read any at all! heheh I already know a great deal of this stuff, yanno?  It's just I'm paying more attention now. I'm listening to my body and watching my surroundings.  I'm just more conscious. :) So thing seem to be clicking more now than they ever did.

Interesting, Chris, cause I was just comparing yogurts in the grocery store today....wondering about the carbs and sugars.  The WW brand I usually buy has 100 calories, .5g fat, 17g carb and 12g sugar with "crystalline fructose" listed, sweetened with sucralose.  I found Dannon's Light & Fit that has 60 calories, 0g fat, 10g carb and 7g sugar, sweetened with sucralose.    They're both 1 point on the WW menu, but bought some of the Dannon to try...less sugar and carbs. Aren't we getting savvy with out label reading?

The Light and Fit also comes in smaller varieties (4 oz, a snack size if you will). One is Carb Control (which has less carbs, obviously-- but the gummy texture is yucky) and another which is 0% fat but with some added nutrition called Light and Fit 0+. I've come to believe that Dannon's 6 oz. Light and Fit is bar none the best deal out there. The Light and Fit 0+ is  60 cal (0 fat, 11 carbs, 3 protein)-- so even though it's a little smaller, they pack in more fruit carbs and nutrition (vitamins A and D)-- without HFCS.

We're now buying the Breyers Light yogurt. It has 80 calories and no HFCS.  It gives you more than the light and fit  ones.. Unless of course you prefer the smaller sizes..  It's a good option for those who want a larger size without consuming too many carbs or calories.

I hear ya. The regular 60 cal Dannon Light and Fit is 6 oz, but I prefer the 4 oz size, on accounta the small pouch.

Do those have fruit in them?  I love the real fruit kind. The Breyers ones we bought tonight have the bits of fruit in `em!  good stuff!

I can't stand the Dannon yogurts. They taste funny to me almost powder like...just not yummy. I always eat Yoplait. LOVE Yoplait! :)

Kriz grow up! LOL ....actually you bring up such a great point that sooooo many people do not realize about labeling and why/how "they" can do what they do.  It is fascinating! Your post made me think of a study in Los Angeles area about what educated, upper middle class families really knew about nutrition. It was mind blowing. Over 90% thought that the term "natural" meant no added sugar. Capri sun (10% juice) and Sunny Delight were in most homes, and parents felt they were nutritional choices. I mean, this has gotten out of hand. One needs a PHD in nutrition to decipher it all.

Good post.

The wife and I went grocery shopping tonight to pick up some things we were missing and I decided to look through various so called light items.  The *ONLY* ones I found that were actually healthy didn't say light at all. Kashi brand seems to be pretty good health wise.  I bought some of their cereal.  I also noticed that a lot of the other brands end up adding vitamins and nutrients to make their cereal healthy.  That just doesn't seem right to me.  I also went down the bread aisle as I needed some hamburger buns for my turkery burgers I've been craving. Naturally I'm looking for wheat buns. Every single damn one of the buns either had enriched wheat or HFCS.  Even the so-called stone-ground wheat breads had HFCS.  I love natural bread. Why is it so damn hard to find some real honest to goodness natural bread?  I gave up the war and bought the Merita "Lite" (what a Fing joke) wheat buns cuz they were the cheapest. I bought some wheat pitas that were au-natural though.  Didn't find those in the bread section. Anyways, I really wish we had a Trader Joe's closer to my area. I'm contemplating driving 30 miles just so I can buy quality foods.  Warm weather is coming which means the farmer's market will have plenty of produce for the picking.  I just don't trust the crap on the wal-mart or grocery store shelves. It looks so......well... unfresh.. Now if I can find a good wholesome butcher around the area.  Wal-Mart injects their meat with tons of preservatives to keep shelf life. Yech...

Have you ever tried Ezekial bread?  One can find it in a health food store in the fridge.  It's sure enough HEALTHY but kinda tastes like cardboard.
