Somebody STOP me!

I gotta beg to differ with ya here, sweetie.  Calories DO count.  Just because one eats a lot of protein and fats doesn't mean they can overeat.  The idea behind Atkins is that one is satiated and remains satiated on LESS food.. which really does translate to lower caloric intake.

Atkins says "Eat freely".. which means "until satisfied" as you stated above.  I'm talking about eating PAST satiation.. which is what I've been doing for 2 days.  Not eating cause I'm hungry.. but eating because I'm hurting.  For the life of me I don't know why either.  It's not like there's a vicodin hidden in that extra piece of chicken. It's just so hard to get started again after a break.  I worked out Tuesday and Wednesday anyway.. but worked chest, arms and legs and was hoping by today I could work my back.  Instead, now my shoulders and arms have it too.  I screwed up.  I just don't want to lose ground.. yanno? It's 11:00am and I'm guessing I already had 800 calories....  so I gotta try to stay conscious.  Peshaw..

Hey Lori...wow, that package sure did do a number on ya. Shock  Sounds like the two of you got into a fight and you got your butt whooped!  It sounds like you aren't planning on letting it get you down for long, though, so I wish you a fast recovery.

I see you are having some issues with calories and Atkins.  I used Atkins to lose a hundred a seventeen pounds, so I may not be an expert, but I didn't get here by not learning something a long the way.  I've never read anywhere in the Atkins books or online to count calories.  I ain't nevva counted a calorie yet on Atkins.  I consider that the closest thing I have to a 'tool' that I can work! The restrictions on Atkins are on carbs, not pure protein.  Protein is a 'free food' because is does nothing to raise your blood sugar level, which is the main objective of Atkins.  Elevated blood sugar levels release insulin, which turns to fat, so the carbs are what need to be monitored, not calories.  The actual principle of feeling satiated is not on less calories, but to feel full on lean protein, like chicken, pork and beef, turkey, and eggs, which in turn keeps blood sugar low, so therefore, no cravings.  The online site actually recommends that if you are not losing, you can lower your carb intake for a few days and eat protein at will to jumpstart your fat burning again.  So I say that you should be eating that protein right now because that is what your muscles will need for healing.  And take a good carb free vitamin B complex supplement to convert that protein to energy for faster healing. Geeze Girl, I don't know that ANYONE wouldn't have a hard time staying on Atkins if you had to restrict calories.  When I'm hungry, I eat like a horse.  But I make sure that my carbs are saved for enjoyment.  I'm addicted to a great salad once a day!  Cool   So eat Sweetie...you're body needs it for healing, Mary

This thread wasn't about Atkins....  but I feel compelled to put my two cents in here.  I try to stay out of controversial conversations.. but I have to speak up a little.  I'm doing a modified Atkins to work with my particular issues.. so my carb count is as close to zero as I can keep it on a daily basis. I've lost about 85 lbs in less than 6 months doing what I'm doing.. so I know it works. Secondly, everyone's body is different.  If I go over 1500 calories.. I DO GAIN weight.  My metabolism is slow, I'm under a 5 in my thyroid, but have many other symptoms, and the diabetes adds to the difficulty.  I exercise and I have strength, but no endurance due to emphysema..... so I know what I'm doing is the best thing for me.  I'm not uncomfortable... I just feel like I'm OVEREATING for the past two days.  Atkins doesn't say to count calories, but he doesn't say to pig out either.  He says "eat freely of", he doesn't say "eat like there's no tomorrow".  There's REALLY a big difference.  Congratulations on your weight loss.. and it must be so easy when you don't have to count calories.. but I DO.. and I do.  There are many folks who think they are doing Atkins eating a pound of bacon in the morning.  C'mon?  There was another case stated right in his book in which a woman complained she was gaining weight on Atkins.  After being questioned, the doctor discovered that she was eating an entire stick of butter with cinnamon on it for desert every night.  Ya......  that's major calories.  For me.. calories in/calories out is everything..the type of food is secondary.  I chose the protein and fat because it's controlling my diabetes without insulin. I appreciate the opinions offered, but I must say that I take little stock in what's happening with someone else's body....  the fact is I KNOW what's happening with mine. Despite what everyone tells me, despite what people THINK they're reading in the book.. I know my own body and I've adjusted my lifestyle so that I can accomplish my goals by paying attention.  I gain at about 1500 calories a day.  If all things were equal, I might buy into the "eat all you want", but eating all I want is nothing more than a sin of the flesh.. lust...   I got enough issues without adding that to it!  If I'm going to be guilty of the sin of lust.. trust me.. it's not going to be over food.  My complaint is that since I hurt myself, I'm sitting around doing nothing but eating.   Thank you for your wishes of a fast recovery.  Yes.. the salami won.  From now on he needs to pick up easy to open salami in the deli!

Well now, there I go advising you on the true version of Atkins, when you are actually on Lori's Version of Atkins.  My bad, but I wasn't aware of the minor details!  I'll have to keep this in mind for the future.   In my humble opinion, there is no one diet fits all.  So I think it's great when people have done enough research and experimenting to know what works for them through the long haul.  My husband can cut down on white bread and lose the few little pounds he puts on occassionaly.  I look at white bread, or any bread for that fact, and gain weight.  With me, it's all hormonal, so I never make it to the third level of Atkins. OK, you totally grossed me out talking about a woman eating a stick of butter with cinnamon everyday! Vomit 2 And in the version of Atkins that I do, butter is so not unrestricted...but I guess Dr. Atkins wasn't thinking about the nutz, like this broad, who would be giving his diet a whirl!  And he had issues with eating large amounts of bacon because of the way it is processed.  Yanno, in a forum like this, where we are all on different programs, I don't think that any topic is controversial...this is how we learn.  We all have to do what is right for us individually.  I wish you much more of the success that you have already experienced.  You might need to hold off a little while on your sin of lust.  A girl's got to get healed up first! Ah..  I've been mostly into impure thoughts for the last 80 lbs or so.. LOLOLOLOL I never say I'm doing ATKINS simply because I know I altered it to work with the diabetes.  I say "modified Atkins".  I learned a lot from the research and finally found something that works for me.....  so I'm tickled. My x hub can eat the veggies and lose.... but if I do more than a couple of broccoli florets, it invokes an insulin response.. and since my beta cells are malfunctioning, the glucose doesn't get delivered into the cells and is stored as fat.  That's the biggest reason I stopped taking insulin.  Why load up on it when my pancreas seems to be producing.. it's the beta cells which are broken.. yanno? You're absolutely correct.. there is NO one size fits all in dieting OR exercise for that matter.  If I could get away without weight training, I'd ditch it for more moderate, sensible exercise for a woman my age.  Unfortunately, no one explained that I'd have to be a slave to it for the rest of my life when I started it when I was 12. Again.. my major b*tch is the pain I'm in.  I'm wondering if the soma is giving me the munchies.  I don't feel "high" or anything from them.. just tired.  I just wish they'd work.  I need these arms by Tuesday or it's another waste of money.  Not that my trainer is THAT expensive.. I cut a good deal with him.. but still... the only one who loses when I miss a session is ME. My poor neecee thought I was goofin' about the salami Friday.. LOLOL

What you said about...no one told you'd be a slave to weight training for the rest of your life, reminds me of something a friend of mine who used to play football said.  He said no one told him that once he quit working out that intensely, that his big chest would fall to his stomach!  And once we've been obese, moderate, sensible exercise just doesn't do it for us.  Geeze, when I think back to the days when I thought 'Sweating to the Oldies' was going to give me a firm, toned body, I think...what the Hell were you thinking?  But to have this hard of a butt at my age is well worth the intense workouts.  Not to say what it does for my heart and health. Yanno, I read that story that you wrote about the salami, and it was so funny that I thought you couldn't be in THAT bad of shape if you could make it that amusing.  Maybe you should try to sound more pitiful?  But we sure are taking your pain seriously now! Awwe, Poor Baby.

When did you have your first Coke Zero?  Maybe something in them isn't agreeing with your muscles?  Coke is evil!! It's the devil! hehehe... I eat more than you do by the way.

I would have never thought of that in a million years.  WOW..  I doubt it.. but it's definitely something for me to investigate.  I know the salami did my back in, but my left shoulder is something else. No no.. can't be it.. my hips and thigh started screamed before I even got back from Florida..  I think it's a fibromyalgia attack to be honest.  The back.. no.. I felt it when I did that.. but right now the only thing on me which doesn't hurt is my hair.
