How many calories do you all eat a day???

Except for WLS patients, I second that...many folks here really do eat too little. Even the WLSers "should" get to the place eventually, some years out, where they can eat 1600 cals daily anyway and not gain...must include exercise programs! If eating less than 1400 cals a day, it is nigh impossible to get all nutrients.  The older one gets, the less your body needs. Really, most people who move on a regular basis and eat 1800 cals should not gain.  At age 50, I would be scared to eat 1800 average daily cals.   I cannot get in much more exercise than I currently do (one hour daily, 6x week) and one harder longer weekend workout.

I was taught in a weight loss clinic years ago that if you multiply your weight by 10, the sum is the amount of calories your body needs to MAINTAIN your weight.  (Example: 250 X 10 = 2500) So if you're wanting to lose weight, you should reduce the calories and/or increase your physical activity. Sounds logical to me! Bren

Me?  i aim for about 1400-1600 daily, and should lose on that, albeit slowly. I can still lose even when one weekend day may spike up to 2300.  Do you feel you want more food? If you are pretty happy at 2000, and the scale moves...why not stay there? It is good to know that you have a little leeway, right? Eventually you will need to stay at 2000 or somewhat below, so there is an argument to eat up while you still "can", too. The carb thing varies from person to person...my body cannot handle them much anymore ( i am 50 and closer to goal weight, now at ~180, would love to be 160).  I eat probably 150 g (grains I mean here, not counting veggies, fruits) daily, some days a bit more.  You are doing awesome!

I like your thinking neecee! lol!  I'm actually very content at 2000 calories.  I say 2000, but it does fluctuate...today I only had 1900 calories, yesterday 2050, the day before 2100; but it tends to average at 2000.   Thanks everyone for the input.  The only reason I made the appointment was because I thought I was doing something wrong because my cals were so much higher.   But I guess everyones body & situation is different.  I think I'll take neecee's advice & enjoy it while I can.  I'm sure that when I lose a bit of weight, I'll have to eat less calories:-( Lisa

All the time I was losing my weight I never once counted calories.

Still have no clue.

THAT SAID: I just know other stuff- like what is low/high GI, to eat less processed food instead choosing whole foods, limit fatty/sugary foods and I learnt about portion size and recommended daily intakes.

For example- I keep tabs on my servings- eg 3 serves (correct portion size) of dairy.  So in my mind I keep a rough tally- eg if I have cereal with breakfast that's one dairy, if I have a yoghurt for afternoon tea that's 2... so I can have some trim custard on fruit for dessert... but if I had had cheese on my salad roll for lunch I couldn't have the custard at night becasue I would have used up my three dairy serves already.

I think I would go nuts if I had to make the time to work out calories. Plus, I am honest enough to admit that if I started counting calories I have the type of personality where controlling my diet would become too addictive and restrictive- I would obsess about it.  So emotionally, I am better off just not going there and instead just 'winging it'.

When my weight loss stalled I added more exercise and became more mindful of those little nibbles- or as I saw it called once "Tiny tastes to and expanding waist".

If what you eat now keeps you satisfied and is balanced nutritionally as well as keeping up the weight loss then stay with it.
