I LOVE IT!!! LOVE IT!!! LOVE IT!!!!! We didn't get the elliptical put together until around 8:00 p.m.... first my 13 y/o had to try it... he did 2 miles in a matter of like 10 minutes! (he's been working out a LOT as he's in wrestling)  He got on again after me and has done a total of 5 miles already!

I did 2.5 miles in like 20 minutes. That was slow but this is the first exercise I've really gotten in a long time. I wanted to start out slow and work up. I can REALLY feel it in my legs and sides! Walking down the stairs after felt like my legs were wobbly!  My heart rate was up around 130... not sure where that should be? I broke a sweat though :) I didn't notice anything really much for my arms... it DOES have the hand/arm movement but it didn't feel like much was working there? ANY amount of exercise I got out of that tonight- is a GREAT thing- cause I really have had ZILCH! My goal is to work out EVERY day. There is no real time in the morning but I will do it more in the evening- while dh is watching his TV. He said he will use it early in the mornings :) :)  We BOTH NEED this :)
Anyhow- thought I'd update you all! I feel really good right now... sure hope I can MOVE tomorrow LOL

Eventually strive for 10-30 beats below your max heart rate.
Age Target HR Zone 50–85 % Average Maximum Heart Rate 100 %
20 years 100–170 beats per minute 200 beats per minute
25 years 98–166 beats per minute 195 beats per minute
30 years 95–162 beats per minute 190 beats per minute
35 years 93–157 beats per minute 185 beats per minute
40 years 90–153 beats per minute 180 beats per minute
45 years 88–149 beats per minute 175 beats per minute
50 years 85–145 beats per minute 170 beats per minute
55 years 83–140 beats per minute 165 beats per minute
60 years 80–136 beats per minute 160 beats per minute
65 years 78–132 beats per minute 155 beats per minute
70 years 75–128 beats per minute 150 beats per minute

Your maximum heart rate is about 220 minus your age. The figures above are averages, so use them as general guidelines. (Personal example, I'm 38 and I workout at 150-173, and yet 169 is my personal "warning zone" where I freak out.  If I'm not into the workout I'll be 130-140 but that's not maximizing my results.

How fun! I like to go the opposite direction (pedal backwards) when I am bored on those things.

As for your arms, there are lots of home style exercises to look into.  I was gonna get some bands for the house and do some stuff with those. But push ups, side planks, even gallons of water will do it for you.  I wish I had an ellip too to do some speed work on. Have a blast!!!!!

Oh I'm so glad that you like it.  I was a little worried you wouldn't like it since you didn't try one first.  I am wondering if they have changed from a decade or so ago.  I remember getting on one and almost falling off the thing!ha  I just couldn't get the hang of it.  I figured I would stick with my bike, something I could put my fat butt on and not fall off!!!!! haha
