Ambien and sleep eating

Has anyone else experienced this.. and how do you handle it.  I'm tempted to not worry about the sleep, but I've read that adequate sleep promotes weight loss and I'm a chronic insomniac. Ok.. I've read all the warnings, and I've been on Ambien before..and I didn't take much stock in the "sleep eating" warning until last night. Maybe when I was on it before, I wasn't as conscious of what I was putting in my face, but last night I could not BELIEVE how bad the munchies were.  I handled it with 10 macadamia nuts, but I still felt munchie.. like I just smoked an entire blunt by myself or something (which I haven't done since I was a kid.. but I remember how bad we'd pig out). About 45 minutes after taking it, I felt like I just had to chew something... the nuts were a good choice and on my food plan.  I don't indulge on a regular basis, but save something like that for when I really feel I need to eat something.. and last night was a winner.. ding ding ding! The woosh fairy came early and helped me get into my right mind so I was very conscious of the urge to splurge in the wee hours... but what if I ate something earlier and didn't know about it?  I found no evidence.. but still...  Ambien.. a diet assasin!

Ambien...SCARY stuff. My wife took it and got completely drunk from it.  She couldn't walk, she had slurred speech and a threw up several times!  It's not good stuff! We both take Melatonin now when we are having troubles sleeping.  I typically take a single dose and within 15 minutes I'm sleeping soundly. I wake up refreshed and don't recall any dreams.  I only take them when I need them because I fear becoming dependent upon them for sleep.  It's pretty natural and I've never heard of any side affects.  Worth a shot, you should try it!

I don't seem to have problems with Ambien, so I guess I'm lucky. I also don't take it much, though...just when I'm traveling. Let me tell you something though. If I take an Ambien and then get up out of bed when I'm feeling tired, I do get kind of out of it. Once I hallucinated that a tree was gonna fall down on me...actually it was kind of entertaining!

Oh Sonora.. that is classic...  great hallucination!  THAT usually takes LOTS of chemicals for me!  LOL I get a little... hmm... like.. all of a sudden I'll wanna go shopping.  I know.. it's crazy, but I'll wake Jon up to take me shopping.  I'll know enough that I shouldn't drive, but I have an urge to get there.  Maybe it messes with my impulse control.. OH.. and one time I had a WILD dream.. I mean pretty wild for me to dream.  I'm trying to think back .. I think I did more damage with lack of sleep than with the ambien but I'm not sure.  I would wake up and find a mess in the kitchen.. like someone was cooking and try to blame it on Jon and he would try to REMIND me about cooking in the middle of the night.  One time I half filled a cup with dish soap, the rest of the way with water, put a knife in it and put it in the fridge...  now THAT was a little freaky to find the next day.

You know what sleep medication DOES make a bomb diet aid? Lunesta. I took it once and woke up with the nastiest taste in my mouth...like I had swallowed a ton of chalk. This was a while ago. It is really hard to keep me from eating but I didn't eat all day until the taste wore off.

LOL...ahhhh, a good ole blunt....yeah, blackout eating! I have not taken Ambien, kind of a sissy about drugs actually. However, on another board, I understand that the Ambien Controlled release (CR) is the big problem, it keeps on releasing, keeping peeps plenty high - and making the hangovers worse from it! One guy on another board did some extremely scary stuff...like got all hyperviolent, drove his car, etc.  (now I am sure that was an undercurrent of what was laying below his surface to a degree), so I am not in a rush to take any of it...even as big as I am, I am rather sensisitve to most drugs, so I can only imagine.

You are not alone on this!

It was in those blunt days that I discovered that a tuna salad sandwich on a fresh french roll is wonderful with pork n beans on top of it!!  Steak um's and stove top stuffing was grand as well.  OH.. Pizza and mashed potatoes!  Wow... no wonder why I got like this!  I can't believe I made it through my teenage years.  I wish I would have had more "fear".. ::shaking head:: I was desperate for some sleep, and probably took more than I should have last night cause I kept waking up.. grrrrrrrrrrrrr.  Everytime I got up I grabbed a piece of salami!  Salami of all things!  I guess it was handy..... (at least it wasn't carbs). What's worse is when ya KNOW ya have to get up the next day ...  I had it on my mind that I had to iron all of Jon's shirts because I was away and got back to 5 dirty ones and I despise ironing... so I put it off for this morning.  So... I woke up every 1/2 hour thinking about it all night.  I should have just got up and did 'em at 3:00am.  I got two done so far and I'm defrosting some shrimp for  his lunch.. but I had to cop a squat with a fresh cup of courage.

One of our faves:  oreos AND more canned frosting! AND whole milk! Like 3 tall glasses! wtf.... We mostly did really icky things like ho-hos, twinkies, suzy q's, mint cookies. I think that stuff tastses really chemically and odd, though it has been 20 years since i tried one.

Hey how did that luncheon thing ever go?  You never said

Was that for me?  Did you mean the dinner I had?  If so..

Welllllllll....

I was disappointed to say the least.  Well, not entirely.. tee hee.  I was greatful that he had jeans in that suitbag ..  I don't have a thing to wear.  A little surprised that he stripped in the living room of the suite though.  I was like "um.. there ARE two other rooms here".  ::shaking head::..  can we say "AWKWARD".  He talked, I got on the laptop to check out the service areas.. and within the first 10 minutes I knew dinner was a waste of time, but this appointment was set weeks ago.. so...  blah blah blah.  I remember us enjoying each other's company a little more in the past.. then again, we had a lot more in common when it involved making money I guess.  Once that factor was removed, it was nothing but smiles and nods.

I thought I was walking back into an opportunity.. but he thought I was moving back to Florida and the proposal wouldn't have worked save I made the move at least into an area where the footprint for the service was optimal.. which was limited.  Let's see.. all of Florida, a couple of counties in Texas and 2 metropolitan areas in Georgia with the promise of NYC in the near future is all there was available.  I was looking for something I can do from HERE.  I'll never go back to the city again.  Hey.. truth be told, I'm not ready to get back into the game yet anyway.    (Sour grapes).
