Hello all....Liquid Diet

That doesn't seem too bad, I think eating 1500 to 1800 calories a day is a great!  When I was on it I was eating anywhere from 500-700 calories a day.  I played a very dangerous game is what my doctor told me.  He told me I'm lucky to be alive since I did it without supervision and so low of calories.  You might do great on this since your calorie intake seems to be up.

Yea, it's sort of scary thinking about how much we eat on a bad day eh?  I saw one show where the guy thought he knew about how much he ate.   Then they actually brought EVERYTHING he ate for a whole day onto a table to show him what he's doing to his body.  WOW, that was a lot of food!!!  That table was filled, and in large quantities. I was amazed.

Jersey- Yea, it was a bad thing to do.  I learned a lot from it though, so that's good. :)  One thing though that's interesting.  I actually crave chocolate like I've never craved it before ever since that diet.  I drank a lot of chocolate protein drinks.  Strange eh? hehe  Now when I get my craving I get my EAS protein drinks out.  Very strange that I crave these now.  One would think I would never want them again! hehe

Hey there Jack!  Welcome to the forum! The only liquid diet I've ever tried was YEARS ago when the "soup broth" diet was gaining popularity.... oh yeah... LOVED THAT!  Yuck! Anyhow, I've done low carb - with great success- I kept the weight off for quite some time- I think it would have stayed off me except that I had 2 babies within two years and a lot of depression with two loss' in my family. I think the added weight from pregnancy and then the depression- THAT was much of my "head problem" that was instrumental in my weight gain. I gained WW on 8/20 and have lost 27 pounds to date. A bit slow but... coming OFF me none the less :) I say- whatever WORKS... as long as you are being sure you are getting what you need in the line of nutrients/vitamins etc.... keep doing it!  Not EVERYONE gains back! I am one that when I do loose it- I usually GAIN ACTIVITY... so that levels out my increased caloric intake. I think you- beings you miss being active in athletics and what not... you may be one that WILL keep it off once you loose the weight. THAT is key! To become ACTIVE again.... as well as try and figure out what it is in your head that makes you want to finish the WHOLE pizza :)  That sounds like ME :) LOVE that stuff! Stopped and took a quick peek at your profile... SWEET babies you have there!  I own a child care business in my home and just LOVE little ones!  (have 6 of my own- though 3 are all grown and out on their own now:) Take care and CONGRATS on the loss!!! Back to add..... I think WATER is the BEST!!! If you keep chugging tha****er--- THAT will be a HUGE help in loosing!

Hey Jack and welcome to the non-op board.   I was a little concerned when I read you were doing a liquid diet, until I saw farther down in another post you were at 1500-1800 calories a day.  I just had my VSG and was on a mandatory liquid diet for two weeks before and now two weeks after.  For me, I was required to only use the products my surgeon has in stock as it's loaded with protein and very low cal.  I was on 80-100 grams of protein a day and at 700 calories per day on average.  It was so brutal and I had a couple of tiny slips.  I will say if I didn't have an end in sight I wouldn't have made it.  Now that I had surgery, and just completed my third week on my liquid diet I'm doing ok.  Main reason being I'm still healing so food just doesn't sound appealing right now.   Sorry for droning on and on.  Anyway, what I wanted to say was be sure to look at the protein you are taking in.  You might also want to see how many calories per day on average a man "dieting" should be taking in.  I know it's more than a woman, but couldn't tell you what it is.  You could be right on track.  Whether you decide to go with the VSG or try the non-op way, getting a good eating plan in place is such a good way to start.

Jack: Welcome! I did it..  (4 protein shakes, 8 ounces of lean meat, 3 loose cups of green veggies),a crap of water, and exercise.. similar to what you are doing now.  I was down 45-50 lbs in 17-18 weeks.  It's doable.. takes alot of focus, and clearly a willingness to change. Welcome to the board and the best of success to you! -Bud

WOW Good to hear from you and your success. I've been tracking what I eat on fitday in case you wanted to see, but I'm having 3 protein shakes a day = 150 gr, some salads and vegetables, and as little carbs as I can take. I've already seen some results but you are right it takes a tremendous amount of focus.

Is that how you lost your weight in the beginning Bud? Do you think you went into starvation mode or do you feel like you lost control after you got off?  I'm curious since you've done so well.  I've been beating around with the idea of mixing up protein drinks with regular food since bariatric foods seems to work on me so well.  I just haven't really done it yet.  Guess I'm scared still of the thought I might lose control again.  But then again, I didn't eat any food either.  Let me know, I'm curious.
