The DSers say I will gain it all back, and that my surgery is inferior. I am wasting my time. Do me a favor and if you ever think that, keep it to yourself, wouldja? I'm tryin' to DO somethin', here!

Shari... let whomever say WHATEVER....   YOU'RE the one who has done the hard work in this.  While it's true that any and all of us can gain every single ounce back that we've lost, it's not because of any procedure.  Hell, most of us here haven't even HAD any procedure.  You lost a massive amount of weight even BEFORE the surgery, so quite frankly, I wouldn't credit the surgery with your success...  your strength and determination has taken that weight off of you and those are lifelong virtues. You don't strike me as a weak-willed individual and I have no doubt that you're in this for the long haul.

I can't let the numbers or detractors faze me. Even if 75% regained their weight with RNY (and they DON'T)--- I'd be aiming to be in the the 25% who don't. No reason it can't be me, right?

Statistics drive me nuts - whether they're on WLS or otherwise. Let's all just shoot for our best, because no one has to be a negative statistic. People who quote those numbers in anything but a passing fashion need to STFU!

I know.. right?  C'mon... it's like we're being told that we'll fail even before we start.. now how much sense does THAT make?  Ok, intellectually I understand why the numbers are important to know, but they don't take into account the character of the individual... just the overall result of the masses.   I was watching one of those health programs about a woman who ended up in the E.R. because of the anorexia she developed AFTER WLS....  where is SHE in those numbers?  Is that success or failure?  One extreme to the other.... I'm tired of being told that I'll fail.  I've been told that all of my life and I don't need it... I tell it to myself way too often to have to hear it from the so called "experts". You're right.... all we can ask of ourselves is that we do our best.. and also do what we feel is RIGHT FOR EACH ONE of us.   Yanno, everyone around here does something different and personally, I've taken something away with me from everyone. So .. thank you to ALL for your forthright attitudes and honesty in communicating your efforts...

You know I wrote out this whole, big, long response to this. I tried to explain how I think the RNY was the proper choice for you and then put myself in contrast, but only ended up in a position where I am unable to imagine myself in your shoes. I can only imagine myself going through the RNY and I keep coming back to how superior I feel the DS is.  I try very hard to relate, but try as I might I just simply cannot understand how you really feel about it.  So simply put, the RNY is not the correct choice for me and I can't 'really' understand any other choice but my own. However, I will never tell you that your choice is inferior. I'm not that type of person. Besides, I don't really believe I feel it is inferior for everyone.  I do know it's inferior for me. Make sense?
