I'm off to Palm Springs today!

Conference, some work, some play in a very beautiful area!  DH gets to tag along, so he gets to more fully enjoy the resort, then he is off to explore Quartzite, AZ, where there are lots of gem shows and fellow rock hounds.  Got my protein bars, drinks, vitamins packed. Shoes, yoga pants, tee shirt, i-pod, swim suit.  Per usual, the food is over the top and in general the condition of hard to eat real well on the road, but I have to stay in check here. I will stick to my plan of all day long eating as low fat as possible, and suppers enjoy to the max.  Thursday night:  a place called Melvyn's - was on the lifestyles of the rich and famous (anyone else as old as me to recall that one).  There's seafood galore there, so I will try to be kind of more gourmet than hometown buffet! LOL

Have a wonderful time, and try not to burn! A friend told me that most shellfish has bad cholesterol, so shrimp, crab, and lobster especially.  But I don't want to ruin your trip by mentioning that. Safe trip!  Tell us all about it when you return.  Sounds like you get a balance of work AND play. It's okay to cheat once in a while, as long as you're good for most of the trip, you can allow yourself to indulge on some gourmet food. Again, have a great time!  Look forward to hearing your stories.

Actually studies say that although shrimp is high- it is not as bad as a lot of stuff :)  It has enough of the "good" (HDL) cholesterol in it to make it okay. They say the HDL returns more cholesterol back to the liver for processing of excretion and that lowers the overall levels of cholesterol in the blood stream.  In Alaska, we have seafood in abundance and all the bad stuff you hear... that is most often associated with the FARMED species. On the farmed stuff- my dh's cousin in Chicago had a heart attack a few years back and his cardiologist actually told him to eat as much salmon as possible and NOT farmed- as it does not have the nutrients/oils etc. that the fresh wild stuff has. We shipped it to him clear back to Chicago!  (Hope I never have that prescription cause I don't like ANY salmon :)
