What would do if you were me??
Hey everyone
Here's my situation:
I met with a nutritionist for the first time since moving to Louisiana 6 months ago. Well so today was like an initial consultation of sorts. Anyway, she was asking about my food journal, highest weight, took current weight, what has motivated me to lose weight, how i stay on track, etc. Well, she found my story ( high weight of 293, motivated by autistic child, newborn baby, husband deployed for 15 months, doing it without wls, blah blah blah) to be inspiring. she asked if i would mind if the local paper did a weekly feature on me and my journey to 150 while my husband is away.
Ok typically, I'm an attention hound lol but right now, because of the reasons stated above, i don't feel like the extra pressure/stress would be good for me. I don't want them to document me gaining 3 lbs in a week (which has happened). I dont handle stress well and i think it may cause me to resort to measures i would never like to do. However on the other hand, it may be motivation to work even harder. So the question is...
Would you do it and why/why not?
Thanks would love the input of those who are in the same boat.
Be Blessed
I'm on a journey to lose 150/160 pounds, possibly more. Starting weight 320, goal 135-160. My gym wants to use me in marketing. At first I resisted, but as I lost weight and saw what they taught me working well, I became open to the idea...a bit.
But I understand privacy.
It just changes a little when you are successful and want to help others out of that same pit you were in.
I have heard "You're so inspiring" and the words made me uncomfortable for a long time.
Then I started to see how I was helping others, even those in less significant situations. The helping hand is worth the moment of attention.
If you don't want to do it then simply say no. Let her know that at this point you have too much on your plate and while you are flattered you simply cannot do it at this time.
There is no need for you to justify your decision.... If you dont want to then dont.
:)
learning to say no is an art that most of us dont do well and should work on
What I've eaten is here for the world to see
336.1 (8-1-07)/319.0 (12-28-07)/200 (goal for 12-31-08)/160 (goal)
Next mini goal is 290 by 1-31-08
336.1 (8-1-07)/319.0 (12-28-07)/200 (goal for 12-31-08)/160 (goal)

Viola, trust me no is not an issue for me lol. I was just wondering is anyone else thought I might be passing up a great opportunity. I have a tendency to over think things (hence my stress level). I can ask too many "what ifs". So I just wanted to no what others would do in the situation and why. I find it flattering but not sure what else to think of it. Thanks for your input
Anything they put in paper or on television has to have a degree of sensationalism in order to sell. It's like Chris said about the donuts.
One of the things i said in passing during a 45 minute phone conversation was that I couldn't fit into amusement park rides. They said something like "Donna's rock bottom came when she couldn't fit her immense girth into an amusement park ride." I was like, holy crap. That wasn't it at all. I talked more about my knees and my health being the important factors.
I guess it was like being "outed" and while people congratulated me, it was just uncomfortable for me to be in the limelight. I'm a relatively private person.
I would say no. I've heard several stories from people on this site where the newspaper article was not truthful. They stretched things a bit by saying things like "She has lost XXX lbs and still eats donuts!!". An article was done about my motorcycle ministry by our local newspaper and while the article was good it still wasn't completely truthful. They spiced it up a bit. I'd rather have the truth. Personally, I'd write the article for them and demand they publi**** as is or don't publi**** at all. Or at least ask that you be able to review the final edit.
On the other hand if the paper is accurate then it's a great way to show others out there it is possible to do it the natural way. Perhaps someone out there is on the brink of getting WLS and is scared to death about doing it but doesn't think they can do it the natural way. Perhaps they'll read your paper and say "You know...maybe i should give it another go..." I'm not against WLS... quite the contrary.. but I do think someone should know wholeheartedly it is for them. but i digress.
I remember andy mentioning that article some time back. I have heard from many that they werent quoted accurately. I can't believe they can legally do that sometimes but I guess they can always say its simply a matter of interpretation.
You bring up a good point that I have been struggling with. I personally feel that many can't honestky say it is a "last resort" . One of the things I found weird about the nutritionist is that if you live on this military base you have to see her before she will recommend wls. She also heads the wls support group on post but she seems so totally against it. Kinda odd, but i guess she has a job to do whether she likes it or not.
Anyway, thanks for your input.
