Eating in front of the t.v. is a bad habit of mine too -- I think because I was brought up that way -- we always had chips or something (not portioned out either) -- before ya know it you're through most of the bag and figure, "what the heck...I'll poli**** off"..... I try to keep myself busy and NO****ch t.v. for long periods of time....I guess I get bored if I'm not doing SOMETHING else....so I have to do something besides EAT!

Luckly, I HATE tv...BUT one good thing about it that I found this morning..It passes 30 mins on a treadmill faster..then staring at a wall!!! One night i walked on the treadmill..just a wall in front of me..i thought oh my this stinks and it has to be the longest 30 mins of my life.. A speech therapist told me at work..Stacey turn it around and watch tv..thats what i do and it really passes the time.. So this morning i got up to walk on my treadmill..i did turn it around..and i watched country music videos.. FYI Be careful watching tv..i had a nutrition class last semester..and one of our assignments was to watch tv for 2 hours..that was really hard for me!!! I don'****ch an hour a day..So i had to split it up.. I watched days of our lives..from 12:30 to 1:30..they didnt' have a whole lot of food advertisements going on..out of 5 maybe 1 or 2..it varied.. Then i watched tv again from around 5-6..and out of 5 commericials..there were 3 or 4 food commercials..they know people are getting home and are settling down and watching tv and they start airing all these food commericials..one i seen this morning was for pizza hut..and heck yeah it looked good but i had to turn it..its total TEMPTATION!!!  If i am feeling bored..i start cleaning..it burns calories..OR I walk on my treadmill.. But if you watch tv..keep an eye on how when it gets later..they seem to air more food commercials...and of course they don't do fruit and veggies on there..its all the JUNK! I found it very interesing myself..

I hate treadmills.. Won't get on one.  I love TV but it sucks my life away.  You might try books on audio as well. If you like to read then you'll find these entertaining.  I have a REALLY BAD habit of speeding.  I get countless tickets every year and I pay for it dearly.  Last year I started listening to audio books everywhere I go and low and behold I don't speed. I set my cruise control at the speed limit and just sit there content.  I LOVE getting into traffic jams because that means I can sit there and listen even longer.  Before, I'd be honking and flipping people off.  I imagine that the same would apply with the treadmill.. .Or even walking anywhere.   Hmm... you know maybe I'll try putting it on my mp3 player and going for a walk tonight!

I LOVE TV and I waste my life away with it lol. At the gym every machine like ellipticals tredmills and what not have their own little personal tvs on them that you plug your head phones into. Which I absolutely love because it keeps my attention on what I am watching rather than the time I am on the machine. Even tho I wish I had an MP3 player because Music makes me work harder depending on the beat of the song.

"Am I Tired?" I'm glad you brought this up.  For years I would get up in the middle of the night and simply HAVE to eat something in order to get back to sleep.  When I was in my late 20's, I remember reading something which suggested that when we are tired, our bodies crave carbohydrates.  This translated to pure sugar for me in the middle of the night.. a cookie, a piece of cake, a spoonful of ice cream.. anything sweet.  I rarely slept well and so I began keeping healthier alternatives readily available for those middle of the night "snack attacks".  Even though my sleep is still somewhat disturbed all night long, I find I am not craving anything but fluids in the last 4 months or so. I'm only guessing here, but I wonder if having a more fatty meal in the evening (instead of the low caI/low fat fare I WAS doing) is keeping me from feeling that empty sensation all night long? I have to remember that.... HALT.  The ALT in that probably covers 70% of my eating habits!

I used to really feel good about being hungry.. emotionally that is... but my body always felt like crapola.  If it's real hunger (which I don't feel other than first thing in the morning) I just.. eat now.  Before I would suck down mass quantities of coffee and water trying to squelch it, but I would end up feeling miserable and constantly thinking about my next meal. I do find that I am getting a lot of head hunger lately.  It usually comes during the day when I'm feeling really lonely and bored.  Yea.. I have things to do, but that's no substitution for human contact.  I'll find myself opening the fridge every 15 minutes looking for a piece of turkey or something.. then slapping myself upside the head as I close it. I have to say that there's a certain freedom in not being hungry like that anymore.  I don't worry about being out of the house and getting tempted with fast food in the middle of the day.  I drove 17 hours with 2 packages of turkey and a case of water with me, and I was more than satisfied.  Now I try to concentrate on feeling good about a job well done.. like a good workout, or getting a load of wood chopped to MY specifications (tee hee.. I like 'em even), or a shiny kitchen floor.   I spent most of my life feeling hungry most of the time... now.. I'm kinda enjoying this.
