Hi Everyone!! I am new to this forum..not to OH. I had surgery, lapband, 3 yrs ago and I am basically at a standstill with weightloss no matter what I do. I am starting a program for nonsurgical weightloss on thursday and wondered if anyone has done a program like that through a hospital or dr office? I want to know how it was and if it was easy to follow?? My band should help me with portion control..I say should because somedays its a wicked little thing and other days its like its not ever there. So I am pretty much starting this with no thought of the band even in my head!! I have about 49 lbs to reach my goal and would LOVE to do that by summer. Any help and support would begreatly appreciated. I'll also add that as far as exercise, I have 4 ruptured disc in my back so my exercise is 99.9% walking. Please let me mention that I am in no way saying anything bad about the lapband..it has changed my life for the better and has saved alot of lives. Thinner Hugs! Charlene

Hi Charlene.  I have the lapband too so maybe I can help you a little.  What kind of diet are you on right now? ie: What are you eating?  You seem to be exercising so that's good.  The last few pounds to your goal are always the hardest, so don't fret.  If you need support, we're here.

Tell us a little more about the weight loss program that you will be taking.  I know many here have done some sort of doctor prescribed plan but I'm sure they all differ. Most I've seen have been a liquid diet.  I've tried those in the past and never made it past lunch but that's just me. Others have had much success.

Thanks for all the replys. Here is what my papers say about the program I am going to be starting. Initial Evaluation by a  medical team, Monthly follow up aoots to chart progress,Sessions with a registered dietitian to design and monitor nutrition plan,Exercise plan three days a week under the care of an exercise physiologist with a number of exercise locations available,Year long access to a online support fitness and weight management program, four sessions with a mental health counselor, spititual support from memorials chaplains, access to weekly and monthly support meetings. Whats a tanita scale?? It says they use that also in the inital eval. I know this program is going to be costly for me but I figure since my insurance paid for my band the least I can do is do whatever I can to make it work for me. I've went from 267 to 182 and then had a major surgery and had a complete unfill and went back to 235 so I am refilled as far as I can be and have been sitting at the 208-214 area since august. I do not eat junk food..I eat lots of salads, chicken and turkey, my only downfall is chili..but its turkey chili. I dont understand why I am not losing. Thats why I am doing this program to help me out and show me where my needs are and what I might be doing wrong. The dr that does this program is also a weightloss surgeon so I will be able to have my adjustments checked if I start feeling I need one or need unfilled. I can do this and I will!! My goal is so close I can reach out and touch it !! Lets do this together!! Hugs Charlene

You may not be losing because low cal isn't always the best way to lose weight.  You should be getting in no less than 300-500 calories less than your BMR (factor in any exercise to that number and up the calories as needed).  If you are eating too little or not enough protein (.8-1g per desired bodyweight) or fiber (fruits/veg) as well. Also, you may be carb sensitive.  In spite of complex carbs, consider eliminating them and keeping carbs to <20-25% of your diet. If this is a VLCD I'd suggest you reconsider.  You don't have to pay a lot of money to lose weight.  You just need a good plan, equipment, time and commitment. If you need help, I can make some recommendations.

FYI a Tanita is a brand of scale that measures many elements.  Mine measures weight, bodyfat %, water%, muscle lbs, visceral fat, metabolic age and level of fitness.  It is known to be highly accurate and has home and professional models.  I have found mine within 2lbs or less of a doctor's scale....
