Hello all, I'm still trying to convince myself that I don't need the WLS. I have been told by many Dr's that I should have it, my insurance will cover me for whatever surgery I chose but I'm just not fully commited to it. I have tried and failed every single diet out there I swear. Well that's not true, Atkins worked wonders for me but it took my gallbladder from the high fats.  I have a lot of joint issues (thanks Dad!) along with a lot of other co-morbidities that all point to the responsible choice of WLS. Is there anyone out there who was virtually unable to excersise due to joint issues that found a successful way to take off and keep off the weight? I am a VERY active person on the days my back allows me. I am a former body builder and can see my muscles under my layers of fat.

I thought I would post over here and check this board out before I turn in my papers to the docs.

I had joint issues starting out.  Most have been resolved with the exercise and weight loss.  What remains is something that surgery may have to deal with. There are many ways around this and to still get good exercise in.

Hello Beth I am 26 but I have the knees of Moses. I have already had 2 knee surgeries. Have you tried swimming? What about injections for your joints or pain management where they do the cortisone shots? I have nothing against WLS, these are just some suggestions/questions. Welcome aboard. Whatever you route you choose, I wish you the best of success. -Bud

I'm behind Bud on this one - Swimming can be your exercise.  Best of luck!

I should think you can exercise while laying down or sitting as well.  Simple arm aerobics make me sweat! Is your back the only thing that hurts you?  If all your joints hurt you and you can't stand the pain to exercise through it then perhaps WLS is the answer for you. I imagine after you get some weight off the joint pay may subside or lessen.

Agree.  Ever try the...oh I don't know the official name for it...arm bicycle.  Trainer and I used it to prep for boxing and during my Achilles injury.  Damn hard and effective cardio!
