Okay, I want to have WLS, my insurance company will not pay for it due to an exculsion.  Until I get finances in order, I want to lose weight anyway. I have dieted myself up to 272 lbs but now back down to 264-266 lbs, and I only 5"5, so yes, I am a big mama. Anyway, what type of diet programs are your following,  WW, carb counting, Exchange counting, etc.  What do you think is good for weight loss.  I know the success rates suck, but at least it will keep my mind off of how much I hate my Insurance company and from eating myself up to 300 lbs. I have several health problems due to my weight, so I really needed wls for that, and also needed to lose it farily fast.--but safely. Any ideas? Heartbroken and fat in Arizona, Kim

If I had to choose a diet, I would choose Weigh****chers.  IMO, WW is not a diet though. Moreover it is a lifestyle change.  It's the closest to what I do myself so it's WW for me.  The most long term success I've seen has come from people in WW or who do similar plans. Check out www.tops.org.   Might be an option for you as well.

Yes, I will check out Tops, I am just so sick of WW price going up and up.  I need something to be accountable too. Thanks, I forgot about tops, I check the site out. Kim

If you have the self-control, fer shur, i agree WW or TOPS.  Check out the mypyramid.org, too, paying extra special attention to what a portion is - in YOUR plates & bowls. Don't kid yourself...make sure you call it what it is...if two servings of cereal, just so ya know. More importantly, for me, teaching myself to eat WAY less at a sitting was key. Even if i had to have another meal sonner than later, it is worth it to teach your body to get to the satisfied point, not further.  Also, limit grains servings for a while...cut back to 4-5, not the recommended 6-11 servings unless you are a competition level athlete. You may even need to get down to 3-4 servings in order to move the scale. I do. Don't be heartbroken...all this takes is a mustard seed sized piece of hope & belief that YOU can be an exception. Go, forth, Kim, and get exceptional!!!!!   You WILL blow it...we all do. But Fat Forever people fail, then start in whining and withdrawing from it all - exactly the wrong reaction. Come here, whine a little, work hard, learn, share, ask, don't just go away and be fat!

Thanks for the website.  When I entered my personal info, it sad to seek the advice of the doctor for medical weight loss. Gezz!  Wonders for the spirt, eeeh? I found out today that my insurance company doesn't pay for wls and for now until we get the money arrange this is it.  I am really trying not to get depressed.  But, this really sucks! Kim

Kim....I have lost weight on just about every weight loss program out there at one time or another in the past 60 years (oldie but goodie here).  My most successful weight loss was with a 12 step program (FA), run just like AA only no sugar or white flour (at all).  I lost 70lb in 5 months and it worked as long as I stayed abstinant (sp?), went to 3 meetings/week and called my sponser every morning with my food for the day.  It was a VERY restrictive program and not one I could personally live with for the rest of my life realistically. I have belonged to WW more times than I'd like to admit....never got to goal weight but I think it is the answer for me.  I am an emotional eater and food serves many roles for me...my friend, my comforter, my lover, soothes my anger...nothing like a bag of potato chips and dip when you're bored.  I don't do well on "diets" that tell me what I can and cannot eat....never have done well with being told what to do.  If I can't have an occasional treat, I feel deprived and do well for a week or two and then just BINGE!!  (I swear I have gained most of my weight after eating something I shouldn't on a diet and then figuring "I blew it now...might as well eat everything I want tonight and start again tomorrow".)  Of course tomorrow stretches into the next day and then next Monday and then next month etc. With WW, I don't feel deprived....can have literally anything I want but have to count the points and maintain portion size.  I have actually gotten to the point where I don't binge anymore, and that's a biggie for me.  As far as the cost....I was certainly eating way more than $12/week in junk food alone prior to joining WW.  It's funny how we can always justify the money for the McDonalds or Burger King, but not for an exercise or lifestyle change program, isn't it?  I know I've done it many, many times in my life. I have very bad knees (total knee replacement candidate but I'm chicken...and I was considering WLS?   LOL) and exercise is hard for me.  Have just signed up for a water aerobics class....just can't wait to put a bathing suit on this body and be seen in public.....and hope that helps speed the weight loss.  I'm not perfect at this....but I think it's the best solution for me.  Hope you find something that works for you too.....Sherrie

I have tons WW so many times I am burned out, here is a quote on there prices for now, you can't just pay weekly.  YOU HAVE to prepay up front.  It if to make you stay and all, I guess.  But, they at the location I went to, taught you to eat as many foods for as little calories but noting about balance of foods. Thanks for trying to help though.! Right now for January, you can join for just the weekly fee of $13 and then pay the $13 each week...don't have to pay ahead at all.  But, it sounds like it didn't work for you, so hope you find something that does.  We all have to find our own niche that works....I'm determined to make it work this time.  My age has caught up with my poundage and it is now a life or death decision....I want to live long enough to see my grandchildren grow up!! Good luck to you...Sherrie
