Hey ya'll I am fairly new to this site and I was thinking about having wls until I found this forum and seen that with a little exercise and eating right I might just be able to lose the weight on my own. But I soooo need some help to be honest I don't know what to eat and what not to eat. I figure if people who have wls have to limit their intake then why can't I do the same on my own. So I am gonna try and do the liquids for a week~or as long as my body will let me~I need a weightloss partner dangit this is gonna be a fight b/c honestly I have never tried to lose weight on my own well besides trying to take diet pills which I never stuck with. Sorry for the long post I am just kinda excited to start and post my goals weekly. I am starting today. Wish me lots of luck imma need it lawd knows I am.                                          Nat

welcome! you can definitely lose weight without WLS and there are a number of people in this forum who have. everyone here does different things but i think the overall sentiment is that you need to do something that is sustainable for you in the long term. if you don't eat meat, a low carb diet probably won't be a good fit for you in the long-run. i am of the belief that you can eat anything in moderation. labeling  'good" or " bad" foods  just increases the dieting mentality and tendency toward perfectionism. absolutely no reason to live only on liquid or beef jerky in order to lose weight. people like to make eating healthily a lot harder than it has to be.  think in terms of lifestyle changes - make small maintainable changes, don't try to flip your entire life around in a week. don't jump into an hour of step aerobics everyday if you have never exercised. that is asking for injury and failure.  really, its all mental. be nice to yourself. if you have truly never tried to lose weight, your best bet to start would probably be a good book or website that has nutritional information so you can start getting an idea of what a correct portion looks like and what is in various foods you eat. if you can, i would highly recommend an intial assessment with a nutritionist, so you can get started on a plan that will be appropriate for you (based on age, weight, resting metabolic rate, exercise level etc). start monitoring your food - either writing it down, or using a number of websites to record it - i like thedailyplate.com - this is super important and one of the biggest keys in long term success. and get support - from here, family, a trainer, therapist, weigh****chers etc. anyway thats the general stuff. ask if you have more specific questions.

I am one of those people! :) I havent had the surgery,yet..My story is on my profile,Feel free to read it! :) If you would like to add me as a friend too, Im good with that also. I have learned a few tricks here and there to get thru the rough stuff...and mostly have been successful so far. I could always use another "team member"

I didnt do JUST liquid...I was afraid of the aftermath when that week was over, and refused to set my self up for ANY kind of failure(not saying you will, I just know me). I have done some MAJOR changing, and it hasnt been as hard as I thought it would be. I dont loose as fast as someone who's had WLS, but its still comming off pretty good .

I can also tell you that joining this site was the best move you could have made before starting your journey. Its full of the nicest, supportive and completely understanding people you could ever ask for. It is invaluable to me!

Welcome to the crew!

Hi Nat!!! Welcome! Yes, it CAN and IS being done without wls. You just have to believe in yourself, don't set yourself up for failure, and make the neccessary changes. I wish you well and I'm here for ya girl! By the way, my husband is from reynoldsburg and his parents now live in canal winchester. I may have to look ya up when we visit again. Be Blessed

Discovering me like never before!
