Ok....so I go to the doctors for my ear....ends all filled with wax right and he uses this water pressure thing to get it all out....very weird feeling!!! lol. So I start mentioning pills and the whole nine yards. I knew how he would react, He says you know that is not the way to lose weight I am like yes I know. He says but what we'll do is have you get some blood work I want to check your Thyroid, Blood Sugar and all of that.  Which I totally figured that....oh and my blood pressure is perfect. He also mentioned putting me on a high protein diet, or having protein shakes in place of some meals...and that. And then he says and if we do go with the pills it will only be for a month I said yes I know, he said it will be like a kick start I told him that was the whole point of it i needa  kick start. So I take the little sheet for blood work...I hadn't eaten for 12 hours so I decided since I was in town to go to the place....let me tell you....blood work is evil. I hate it...with the most passion of anything. So I figure ok they take one vile of blood she freaking whips out 3 viles...I'm like holy mother of god help me. But this lady knew her stuff she was good! One poke and bam! Oh and I had to give a urine sample....ew. lol. I asked the lady how long does it take to get results back on the blood...she said they'll be in Monday....so I am going to call the doctor on Monday and go from there!! So I am on my way to something...Oh I am pretty sure I will be getting a month's worth of drugs....to help boost...

High protein--yup yup yup.  Remember .8-1g per body weight.  Good protein shake is EAS/Carb Advantage (110 cal). And yes, blood work is evil.  My nurse burst a blood vessel and I had a tremendous bruise for 2 weeks.

Not to hijack ---  are you saying to consume per day :  .8 - 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight???

Yup.  Protein is key to weight loss.  So, for me, if I want to weigh about 150lbs, I need 150g protein.  Anyone who tells you less, doesn't know squat.,.In my not so humble opinion.  This is the rule of thumb in the fitness industry and frankly, when I went from 80g to 150 the weight loss happened.

Jumping in here...some people who do know squat - Registered Dieticians - suggest about 60 grams daily for a full grown woman. Some RD's will tell you that the more athletic a person is, more is needed. A heavier woman may require more as well. Having said that, as in all things, some bodies do respond better in weight loss mode to more protein, me included. I consume about 100-120 g daily, which allows my body to feel more satiated (less hungry as I consume less calories to lose weight).  I just wanted to give you a more balanced perspective. The true answer is anywhere between 60g - 120 is where you may need to be. You tell us...we cannot tell you.

Some do, definitely more so than doctors, but those who believe less protein are those who also don't work with exercise in the formula. Neecee, I share, not "tell".  But I also have an opinion. I know GP's level of training in weight issues and wouldn't ever trust them again with directing weight loss.  An RD certainly has more info, but like I said, they're not using exercise as a factor if they're suggesting such a low amount of protein.  The .8-1g protein is THE number most in the fitness industry, including RD's, will tell you.  If you're not going to exercise then you can scale back, but you'd also better scale back your starches far since you won't have the activity level to burn them....

OK so for those of you eating in the 100's for protein grams, how do you get that much in daily?  Do you do it with supplements?  You must I would think?  I can't imagine getting all of that in with just food and keeping calories down.

A grilled chicken breast has 29g protein.  You could have 5 in one day, which of course would taste terrible (too much of one thing).   I have 2-3 hardboiled eggs/day (up to 19g) and a lean protein like chicken for lunch and fish for dinner.  My protein shakes have 17-23g and myy protein bars have 30g. I try to have shakes or bars for 3 of my 6 meals. Without enough protein, weight loss will be sluggish, generally speaking.

Sounds like he's a thorough doctor! Glad you're getting the blood work done and  that he is listening to you... he seems to be respectful of your thoughts, opinions and needs. You are wise to wait and work WITH him/her. I think if they are going to work something out specifically with you... it's best to work with him :) Sounds like you are on the road to a  boost in your WL journey!  I think you'll do just fine. You are working with a health care professional,  and between the two of you- you can keep an eye out for any issues- if there are any. I had to laugh with your explanation of the blood draw :)  I have RH factor blood so had to be attacked by "the vampire" TOOOO often while preggo over the years, so I am use to it now, but I could picture your eyes as you saw her whip out three viles :) LOL
