Just a holiday season reminder

There are many studies about weight gain over the holiday season and the figures vary about "average weight gain" but most studies agree on one thing: most people don't lose that weight so it adds up over the years.  I'm sure this happens all the time but obviously the opportunities to overindulge (or even binge freely) are so rich during this time of year.  Anyway, my point.  I just wanted to remind everyone that, even if you maintain your weight this season, you are ahead of the game.  I admit that I get a nice little high off of seeing those numbers on the scale decrease but there is a certain strength in maintaining and that is what will keep the weight off long term. I just know it is sometimes easy to forget this with all of the hustle and bustle.

Hi Beth! I can say a hallejuh to that.  I was one of those stats...weight that crept on me during vacation and holdiays was errrr...not leaving my body.  Every year, i was gaining 5-8#, and i was not liking that. I got back up within 10# of my highest known weight....scary. This game is so subtle, so there is an argument that we NEED to be more numbers oriented, at least conscious of those numbers and analyze them carefully. I have said for a while now that soemtimes, the weight we DID NOT gain is very important too. Of course, it is not quantifiable, so we don't recognize it as important.

My DD told me something about her gym teacher the other day that I think can really help teens learn their bodies.  The gym teacher makes all of the girls weigh themselves every Friday, they don't have to reveal that number to classmates or even the teacher, her thoughts are that if you know the truth, you can choose to do something about it.  If I had learned that years ago, I may not have become the queen of denial.....while 5-10 lbs. crept on every year.

I remember reading this in one of your other post.. I think it was 10lbs during the holidays. I am definitely going to TRY to stay ahead of the game. I'm on vacation now, and I'm eating a lil bit every 3 hours. There isn't a scale here at my parents house, but I think it would be a good time to go and get one. I need to do some kind of movement today. I feel sluggish today PLUS I have a cold. All I've been doing is sleeping and eating. Tks for the reminder. -Bud
