Tomorrow I go talk to the people at curves. I was concidering surgery but want to try to loose the weight on my own first. So my question is:Is there program efficient and what is the cost, just so i am not shocked by numbers tomorrow. Thanks  Chantal

I believe it's pretty moderate, like <50/mo.  However, the types of machines and the circuit are pretty modified and best for the mature/completely inactive set.... Why not a regular gym?  More offered there, more bang for the buck.

I was a member of curves for about a year and a half. I dont think it helped me much with weight loss - but I did feel pretty good physically and I know I gained strength etc... It was good in that there were no boys allowed and it was nice to exercise in an arena where I did not feel self concious.  I had tried out several gyms locally and most were meat markets in disguise...LOL   I also liked that there was no need for trainer costs..  the girls who work there will help you with your form if you need it. All sorts of women work out there - from the thin and active to the old and obese.  You can really tailor the intensity of your own workout.  The suggested plan is 3 days of resistance a week.  That means you work those darn machines until you think you are going to DIE in those 30 seconds and then use the recovery station in between to do just that - recover. Some folks also reverse it and do cardio 3 days a week in addition.  They go easy on the machines and then really get moving on the recovery boards.... these were the people *****ally lost weight... and more often than not they did 45 or 60 minutes instead of 30. Give it a shot.  I liked it personally and wouldnt rule out going back at some point... and I hate exercise...  LOL

I've never joined, but I've called on it before.  Plus I had a coworker go there and she did great!  She absolutely loved it, so I think it's really what your looking for.  I do know that the times I have called they have different promotions so you might get a good deal around the first of the year if you want to wait until then.  Not a promise it will happen, but I do know they have promotions here all the time so it might.

I went to Curves a few years ago

it was great for me as I was basically inactive prior to joining, however, after about 6 months I was ready for more...so as soon as my contract was up, I moved on to a regular gym.

I of course, quit that too - but have since joined a gym again and LOVE IT!

There are gyms out there that aren't meat markets...the one i got to even has a policy about what we can wear to workout in - thank goodness!!

Good luck whatever you choose!

I did curves and the exercise program was easy....but I got dizzy from working in circles!!!  LOL  Anyways, it didn't last too long because to be honest it didn't float my boat....It might work for you though.....another reason I quit was because there was this maniac anorexic girl in there that would be there for hours it seemed and she freaked me out by going really fast and running around/cutting in front of people.  I know she was there when I started and was still there when I left.  Isn't there supposed to be a time limit?  I thought I could only go 20-30 minutes.  Plus on top of that it was being run by college age (no offense) girls who only saw it as income and never interacted with anyone...no weigh ins, no measurements, no encouragement.

blah blah blah

I can't help but rant.....its the hormones baby or the baby hormones....I dunno?
