Cost of eating healthy (poll)

Often people tout that eating healthy costs less than otherwise.  I beg to differ.  My bills are almost double what they were pre-any diets/program last few years. So I'm curious.  How many calories do you eat each day and what would you say you spend each week on groceries?  Include grocer story, convenience store, fast food, vending machine--all intake....

You know I think eating healthy costs more at times. Because I guess it all depends on how many calories you are eating each day.  I know when I am not eating healthy I eat ALOT of fast food which cost ALOT of money seriously! So many calories too.  So I would say about 50 bux a week....thats how much I spent yesterday but all of it wasn't healthy food. A couple of junk foods for the b/f and some kitty food.  so maybe 38bux. Because when I am "dieting" so to say I do not eat fast food...because like snow, fast food=evil as well. lol. I stick to what I have in the fridge or freezer for the most part. Plus I live by myself it doesn't cost TOO much to buy groceries. I mean I find it kind of expensive at times...it just depends on what i feel like eating that week. Like I didnt buy alot of fruit...actually now that I think about it i didnt buy any...well crap! I need some lol. Oh I am forgetting about my Thursdays. I do go out. Every Thursdays I go out to Uno's Chicago Bar and Grill with the girls. $4 Long Islands....I usually have just one of those and now I will be either ordering a salad or soup...which the bill will range anywhere from $10 - 15$ soo.....yea. Oh Calorie intake...I know you don't like Low calorie Jerz but hey ya know....1,000 to 1,200. I am actually really low for today I dont even reach 1,000 and I am going to work alot off tonight tooo.....eh. It works for me :) Oh and on the weekends I usually dont spend money...my b/f does if we go out to dinner at resturants. I order something healthy..salad, chicken, no butter, oil, no fried....whatever. But on weekends I allow myself to have a little something off the plan so I keep sane and stay on track. :)

It's not that I "don't like" low cal, I just think in the end it ruins the metabolism.  Frankly, I can be full on 1200-1400, just force myself to have more as it's what I need.

50 bucks, huh?  Wow!  Well, I try to buy all healthy and can easily spend 100-130week!  From $1/tomato to $3 asparagus to $5 chicken breasts (x3), to $3 raspberries (x3), $1 persimmon (influenced by a fellow poster here), etc.... And that's not including dog bones and grooming items.

That's for the whole week? Oi! I don't need all of that to survive....plus I have stuff in the freezer...lots of veggies. And LOTS of protein already in there....so much chicken breast and sliced turkey breast and I have a a BUNCH of venison to choose from at my parents house thanks to my brother shooting 3 deer this year yummo!!!!! Hmm tomorrows dinner is definitely consisting of deer lol.  So usually I only need a bit of food at times.

It's not that I need a lot of food by hunger, but by nutrition.  I could go cheaper a bit and live on frozen stuff but I find fresh tastes better.  But when 2 breasts of chicken equal $5 and that's just two dinners (sometimes one) or a bag of frozen broccoli costs $3 and that only takes care of two meals, it adds up fast.  I strive for variety, otherwise I'd live on cheap apples, not expensive raspberries. Then again, I think food also has different price points in different parts of the country. What would $50 buy here?  Let's see. I'll make it simple. 14 chicken breasts (2 per day)=$35 3 bags of salad (1 per day)=$9 carton of eggs=$2.5 1/2 gallon of milk=$2.5 There'd be no room for fruit or much veggies, or variety....

I dont think about the deer being a deer. I just think of it as yummy meat. Because if I started thinking about the animals...I'd be a vegetarian! Because I can not harm them poor animals :(

venison is very lean!  AND...the biggest point here, hunters are NOT hypocrites at least, which is more than I can say for myself. I walk into a store, buy the pretty little meat packages, no blood, no gore, not ever focusing on how that animal had to live and die for me.  I could not hunt, but i darn sure can un-consciously purchase.

One vacation 13 years ago I fished for every meal--and loved it! And venison--on the grill is great!

Hmmm, I have no idea  how much money I spend on myself a week.  I have a family of six so it's hard to figure it out.  We probably spend about $750 or so a month on food for all of us.  Plus we eat out once a week too.  Foods spendy!  We probably average a grand a month.
