Abstinence - Day 293

I went to my family doctor to have my physical.  After being weighed, I was at a new low of 268 pounds!  That means I've lost 26.5 pounds so far!  My doctor said I'd lost 11 pounds since she last saw me.  But then she said something which really bugged me.  I told her I was trying to do the 1600 calories.  She told me to go down to 1400 calories!  I don't think I can do that!  It's hard enough doing the 1600 calories, let along 1400 calories.  Argh! Breakfast 1/2 grapefruit 1 cup raisin bran 1 cup 1% milk 2 cups coffee 20 oz. water Lunch Veal fritter Rice Peas Peach slices 2 medium whole wheat pita breads 6 oz. nonfat, low sugar yogurt with fruit 16 oz. water Dinner Salmon filet on griddle (seasoned with lemon pepper) 1 cup brown rice with 1 tsp. margarine 1 can vegetable soup 17 grapes 1-1/2 cups 1% milk Evening Snack 1/2 cup sugar-free, low fat ice cream Denise Phares

I personally think that if you don't want too then don't!  Your losing, that's what counts.  I'm sure she just wants to push you because she knows it will come off faster.  Especially since she knows your doing so well with it.  But hey, if you can't you can't.  Either that or give it a two week trial and see what the outcome is.  You can always go back to your original plan.

Good luck!

This may be a case where your doc may not realize that you a food compulsion.  Have you told her? My only advise might be to avoid restaurants more - looks like you guys go out a fair amount. The worst thing for restaurant food is, of course, saturated fat.   On the other hand, when you know you are going out, have less fat at your other meals that day.   Otherwise, like Holly says, shoot, what you are doing is working. Why fix it if it ain't broke.

At some point, by summer or so, you may have to cut back on food intake to move the scale.   Which, folks, is exactly why i am such a proponent of WLS...the older we get the less food we need, and when an obese body goes into middle age, it is insane how little food you need to fuel the body.

I'm with neecee on this one...  does the doc know about OA and compulsion?

What you are doing is working - keep it up. Bravo

My husband and I discussed it, and we've decided to give up the sugar-free, low fat ice cream after the first of the year.  Also, to give up drinking milk in the evening.  But we'll still have our "treats" on the weekend, such as chocolate graham crackers, and Slimfast Bars and popcorn.  I won't give those up. No wayyyyyyy! I wouldn't give it up. I say if its not broken, don't fix it! 1600 calories is a nice amount of food!  I have to have something sweet every day, it keeps me satisfied... Something to consider is cutting the portions you have now into half.. or either alternating having milk or ice cream each day. Just some options. -Bud

I'm with Bud - don't deprive yourself if you dont have to! For me - not allowing myself treats causes binges...  It's not broken... as long as you are still losing and still working your program :)  Ice Cream
